No Ranger Is Safe In 'Power Rangers: Shattered Grid', The First Comic Book Event In 'Power Rangers' History

Original BOOM! Studios Press Release via boom-studios.com:

NO RANGER IS SAFE IN ‘POWER RANGERS: SHATTERED GRID’

The epic comic book event begins with

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #25, in stores March 2018

Los Angeles, CA (December 4, 2017) – BOOM! Studios, in partnership with Saban Brands, announces POWER RANGERS: SHATTERED GRID, the first comic book event in the twenty-five-year history of the global pop-culture phenomenon. In celebration of Saban’s Power Rangers’ 25th anniversary, the epic event begins on March 21, 2018 with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #25, by Kyle Higgins and Daniele Di Nicuolo, featuring events so shocking that the issue will be sealed in a black polybag to prevent spoilers!

POWER RANGERS: SHATTERED GRID will unfold in issues from both Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers and include two special one-shots. Lord Drakkon—a twisted alternate-reality version of Tommy Oliver (AKA the Mighty Morphin Green Ranger)—and his newly reformed deadly army will cross dimensions in order to execute on a plan that threatens the very existence of every Power Ranger ever. For the first time in comic book history, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers will join forces with some of the most popular Power Rangers teams in the franchise to face the threat.

“Call me sentimental, but I love anniversaries. Over the last two years, I’ve been weaving threads in the pages of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, all leading to the 25th anniversary of the franchise,” said Kyle Higgins. “SHATTERED GRID is a massive Power Rangers event that’s both a celebration of the property and also the largest comics story I’ve ever tackled. Lord Drakkon’s plan is so much bigger than our Rangers, our world, and even our universe. The Grid is shattering, every Power Ranger in all of existence is at risk, and it’s going to take more than just the Mighty Morphin team to stand against Drakkon’s armies.”

“The key to incorporating Go Go Power Rangers into SHATTERED GRID was making the story integral to the event while never losing the personal stakes of the series—and we are doing that in a really exciting way,” said Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers writer Ryan Parrott, whose series joins the event in April with issue #9. “A fan-favorite Ranger from the future is going to arrive, searching for Drakkon—and end up dividing our team in a very personal way. Thematically, Go Go has always been about examining the past in order to understand the future—and there’s no clearer way of doing that than smashing them into one another in real time.”

Polybagged editions of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #25 will be shipped with six (6) main covers illustrated by Goñi Montes, randomly assorted in equal quantities, featuring Drakkon holding one of the Mighty Morphin Power Ranger helmets. Montes helped launch the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic series from BOOM! Studios with a series of iconic covers on issue #0. A special chase variant by Montes will also be available and mixed in randomly within the polybagged editions. This landmark issue will also feature variants (shipping without polybags) by superstar artist Humberto Ramos (Amazing Spider-Man), Jordan Gibson (Howard the Duck), and a stunning wraparound cover featuring every Power Ranger ever by Scott Koblish (Deadpool).

POWER RANGERS: SHATTERED GRID kicks off BOOM! Studios’ celebration of the Power Rangers 25th Anniversary, with additional exciting comics, graphic novels, and more to be announced soon.

Print copies of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #25 will be available for sale on March 21st, 2018 at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the one nearest you) or at the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers like comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the BOOM! Studios app.

SHATTERED GRID has been something we’ve been planning from issue #0, with the singular goal of delivering the biggest Power Rangers story we could tell at BOOM! Studios,” said Dafna Pleban, Editor, BOOM! Studios. “If you think you know where this story is going, think again—we’re making sure each issue of SHATTERED GRID shows you something that no Ranger fan has seen before!”

“From the very beginning, it’s been a joy working with Kyle, Ryan, and the entire team at BOOM! Studios, which is culminating in this fantastic event,” said Brian Casentini, Executive Producer of the Power Rangers franchise. “All of us at Saban Brands are thrilled to be able to bring this fantastic story to Ranger fans all across the world.”

The titular “Grid” Higgins refers to is the Morphing Grid. Basically, it’s “The Force” for the Power Rangers universe. It’s a spiritual, cosmic energy that all Power Rangers tap into to become superheroes. For a long time, even the show has had a hard time explaining in plain terms how the Morphing Grid works, but in Higgins’s new series, the Morphing Grid is, well, shattered.

In additional Power Rangers news:

- Shout! Factory has announced what is probably going to be the last of their individual season set Power Ranger DVD packages: On March 27th, Shout! will put in stores a 4-DVD set of Power Rangers R.P.M. - The Complete Series, priced at $19.97 SRP. This 17th season of the show (by comparison, the new season in 2018, Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel will be the program's 25th season!) stars Ari Boyland, Dan Ewing, Milo Cawthorne, Eka Darville, and Rose McIver (who has gone on to a great career starring or appearing in iZombie and Once Upon a Time). Closed captioning is included on these episodes, and box art is here on TVShowsOnDVD.com. The DVD package is currently listed on the Shout! Factory online webstore and Amazon.com.

- Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger vs. Keisatsu Sentai Patoranger, Super Sentai's anticipated new season is finally coming into view, and now fans have their first look at the poster and even more toys from the series! A newly released toy catalog revealed a slew of new images of the Zords, vehicles, and weapons from Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger vs. Keisatsu Sentai Patoranger. The new poster shows the thieving Lupinrangers up at the top with the law enforcement Patorangers at the bottom, and a date set for 2018. The designs of the suits look pretty slick, and each team consists of three Rangers. Thanks to RangerBoard though we also know a bit about their arsenal and Zords. The images show off the Patoranger's Dial Fighters and the Lupinranger's Trigger Machines. You can also see the Goodstriker, a massive vehicle that can help either team depending on what is attached to it. This segues right into the larger mech forms, which will change depending on who Goodstriker is joined with. If you combine the Patoranger's Dial Fighters with the Goodstriker you get the impressive PatoKaiser, while the Lupinranger's joined with Goodstriker form Lupin Kaiser. Also in the images are roleplay items, which include the Double Henshin Juu DX VS Changer LupinRed set and the DX VS Changer PatorenIchigo Set, both of the Transformation Gun variety. Fans can also get their hands on the Itadaki KalTou LupinSword (Taking Theif Sword) and the Kakusei Keibou PatoMegaBou (Amplification Baton), which looks like a bullhorn attached to a baton. The images also spotlight the individual vehicles of the Rangers, which include the VSV DX Trigger Machine Ichigo, the Trigger Machine Nigo, the Trigger Machine Sango, the Red Dial Fighter, the Blue Dial Fighter, and the Yellow Dial Fighter. You can see images on ComicBook.com. According to recent rumors, the season will be a cops vs robbers type show that will tell two different storylines taking place in the same world. Patoranger and Lupinranger will alternate each week, with stories that are unique but intersect with the other. Eventually, around episode 20, the narrative and the shows will converge, forming one cohesive story, though none of that has been confirmed just yet. Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger vs. Keisatsu Sentai Patoranger is set to debut in Japan in early 2018.
