4 Burning ‘iCarly’ Questions That Can be Answered in the Reboot

Nearly a decade after it said iGoodbye, iCarly is prepping for its modern-day return on Paramount+.

The hit Nickelodeon TV series signed off in 2012 and thanks to the upcoming reboot and old episodes on CBS All Access and Netflix, it’s conjuring up laughs and fond memories. Along with Carly (Miranda Cosgrov), Sam (Jennette McCurdy), and Freddie (Nathan Kress), fans rocked with Spencer (Jerry Trainor), Gibby (Noah Munck), Lewbert (Jeremy Rowley), T-Bo (BooG!e), Ms. Benson (Mary Scheer), and a host of other quirky characters.

With so many hilarious episodes in the vault and excitement for what’s to come, viewers are reminded of some lingering questions about iCarly that left many scratching their heads. Wouldn’t it be fun and mind-blowing if some of these were resolved?

What happened to Carly and Spencer’s mom?

It is one of iCarly’s greatest mysteries for fans and one that may not ever get screen time. What’s the backstory on the Shay siblings’ mom?

It’s no secret that Carly and Spencer lived on their own in that Seattle penthouse, but the only family members they communicated with were their dad and grandfather.

When Grandpa tried to make Carly move to Yakima with him, it seemed like the decision was mostly left up to him and their father, Colonel Shay. And although Spencer and Carly occasionally spoke about their father, they never mentioned their mother.

Everyone knows Carly adores her dad, but fans would love to learn more about her mom.

What did the goat do to Carly on her birthday?

One of the running gags on the show had to do with a incident involving a goat on Carly’s birthday. Inquiring minds want to know what exactly happened that gave her the shivers.

“Don’t talk about what the goat did,” was the code. Whatever occurred at that petting zoo must have been a serious violation, but maybe twenty-something Carly will be ready to talk about it.

Will anyone ever get to meet Socko?

Spencer’s buddy had no shortage favors and gifts he was willing to dole out for his friend. Socko’s name came up countless times during iCarly’s run. But the invisible bestie was responsible for the motorcycle Spencer gave to Sam, an endless of array of colorful and bright socks, and even art supplies for Spencer’s flaming projects.

All fans have seen of Socko is a partial view of his arm during one episode. Some are suggesting a themed “iMeet Socko” special should drop when the reboot airs. Folks really want to meet Spencer’s generous friend — and the rest of his industrious family too.

Is Nevel locked up?

Nevel Papperman (Reed Alexander) never quite reformed his behavior on iCarly, and he last popped up in an episode of iCarly x Victorious spin-off Sam & Cat. There, he was caged in a hospital like Hannibal Lecter (along with "Crazy Steve" from Drake & Josh) and later broke free.

But was he ever caught? If not, Nevelocity and “rue the day” schemes may not be over and have the potential to reach adult-levels of brazenness. Or maybe he's followed his dreams and opening a men's haberdashery?

The unnamed iCarly reboot is reportedly in production, with filming slated to commence in March 2021. Actors Miranda Cosgrove, Jerry Trainor, and Nathan Kress on deck to reprise their roles, and the series is pencilled in to premiere on Paramount+ in May 2021.
