Pluto TV Launches on Amazon Fire TV Devices and Amazon Fire Tablets in the UK, Germany and Austria

Pluto TV, the rapidly growing free streaming service recently acquired by Viacom, is strengthening its European distribution with launches on Amazon Fire TV devices and Amazon Fire Tablets in the UK, Germany and Austria. Pluto TV’s thematically curated channels are available on Amazon devices in all three markets effective immediately.

Additionally, Pluto TV and Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) are set to expand the service’s programming slate in Germany and Austria with the launch of the new branded channels MTV Pluto TV, MTV Dating and MTV The Shores, as well as popular Nickelodeon content. This marks the first time Viacom channels will debut on Pluto TV outside of the U.S.

MTV Pluto TV is set to feature classic MTV shows like Teen Mom and Pimp My Ride; MTV The Shores, a new pop-up channel, will feature Jersey Shore and its U.K. spin-off Geordie Shore; and MTV Dating will feature the channel’s dating shows.

The launch on Amazon Fire TV devices and Amazon Fire tablets in the UK, Germany and Austria marks a milestone in the European expansion of the ad-supported streaming service, with a significant growth in reach and number of unique market-tailored channels.

Pluto TV offers more than 50 channels in the U.K. and more than 20 in Germany and Austria, featuring interest-led curated channels such as drama, independent and blockbuster movies, true crime and documentaries, among others. Pluto TV Kids and Pluto TV Kids Jr. channels will bring Nickelodeon series such as Dora the Explorer to entertain and educate young audiences. The new channel Pluto TV Sitcoms is aimed at young adults, airing cult series including Clarissa Explains It All and Instant Mom.

Following Viacom’s $340 million purchase of Pluto TV in January, executives for the streaming platform have identified international expansion as a priority.

Olivier Jollet, Managing Director for Europe at Pluto TV, said: “The launch of Pluto TV on Amazon streaming and mobile devices in Europe takes us one step closer to fulfilling our mission to entertain the planet. Our lineup of diverse, thematic channels and premium programming are a perfect match with Amazon’s vast and engaged customer base, especially now that in Germany and Austria we added Viacom content to our pipeline. Amazon’s advanced streaming technology and user-friendly interface makes it easy for audiences to discover Pluto TV and experience the ultimate TV-like lean back viewing experience on a leading OTT device. For brands, the benefit of advertising on Pluto TV is that it’s a high-quality, brand-safe environment.”

Pluto TV had its global rollout in 2018, including Europe, where it launched in the UK, Germany and Austria. In early 2019, Viacom acquired Pluto TV and is accelerating international expansion efforts. The launch on Amazon Fire TV and Fire tablets in Europe brings Pluto TV and its premium, brand-safe, ad-supported, live, linear streaming service to an even wider audience.

The latest news comes a few weeks after Viacom launched several branded channels on Pluto TV in the U.S., including Nick Pluto TV, featuring classic Nickelodeon shows, and Nick Jr. Pluto TV, featuring preschooler favourites. Viacom is also looking at launching Pluto TV in Latin America, as well as launch Latino channel in the U.S.
