Dark Horse Working on Next 'The Legend of Korra' Graphic Novel Trilogy

Dark Horse is working on the next The Legend of Korra graphic novel trilogy!

When asked on Twitter about the future of The Legend of Korra comics, Dark Horse editor Rachel Roberts revealed "We’re not ready to announce any details yet, but we are working on the next trilogy. I really appreciate your patience and hope it’s worth the wait!"

Created and executive produced by Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the epic story of The Legend of Korra, set in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender 70 years later, follows the journey of Avatar Korra, a 17-year-old girl striving to live up to the legacy of her predecessor Avatar Aang, while using her mastery of all four elements to confront political and spiritual unrest in a modernizing world.

Launched in April 2012, Nickelodeon’s The Legend of Korra ran for 52 episodes over four seasons ("Books"). Its first season premiered as basic cable’s number one kid’s show and drew 3.8 million viewers per episode, the highest for an animated series that year.

Following its TV series finale, the story of The Legend of Korra has continued in a series of best-selling on-going graphic novels written by TV series co-creator DiMartino. The first trilogy of The Legend of Korra graphic novels, Turf Wars, was released in 2017, and picking up right where the left off, and begins with Korra and Asami leaving the spirit world and returning to Republic City only to find political hijinks and human vs. spirit conflict. A second trilogy, Ruins of the Empire, was released in 2019 and features the return of Kuvira, the archvillain of The Legend of Korra. On the eve of its first elections, the Earth Kingdom finds its future endangered by its past. Even as Kuvira stands trial for her crimes, vestiges of her imperial ambitions threaten to undermine the nation’s democratic hopes. Drastic measures will be taken to halt a new march to war and Korra must decide whom to trust as the fate of the Earth Kingdom hangs in the balance.

Both The Legend of Korra and Avatar: The Last Airbender saw a resurange in popularity over the summer thanks to being added to Netflix.
