The seconds-long clip, which was shared with her 18 million TikTok followers, generated plenty of buzz. Used to seeing her with her hair pulled back into a sleek high ponytail, many were floored by Siwa's more natural appearance. Another person wrote that "this is a whole other JoJo and i love it," while a second fan declared the split-second image of Siwa with her hair down a "historic moment." That sentiment was echoed by a third person, who jokingly asked "what chapter of the history books do y'all think this is gonna be in?"
Siwa appeared on two seasons of Dance Moms before signing an licensing partnership and overall talent deal with Nickelodeon. Since joining Nick, the star has co-hosted Nickelodeon's Lip Sync Battle Shorties and launched her first animated shorts series, The JoJo & BowBow Show Show. JoJo has sold more than 60 million of her signature bows as of December of 2019. Popular for his singing chops as well, Siwa was slated to embark on her nationwide D.R.E.A.M. tour, though she announced in March that she was forced to cancel the tour due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Forget being outed as the T-Rex on The Masked Singer — THIS is JoJo Siwa‘s biggest reveal of 2020! The “Kid in a Candy Store” singer, 16, took to her massively popular TikTok page to share a brand new look, and her fans were in for an absolute surprise. JoJo took the bow out of her hair and released her iconic high ponytail. That’s right; her 18.8 million followers got to see her real hair in all its glory. And she’s stunning! The video, which you can watch below, shows JoJo lip synching to TIAGZ‘s “Flout on the Sound” as she shows off a few of her typical outfits — sparkly pants, pink leopard, fringe, sequins, a vest covered in teddy bears(??), and enough neon to make Lisa Frank blush. But her last look is the most outrageous of them all. At least, by JoJo standards.
At the very end of her TikTok, just for a split second, JoJo literally lets her hair down and flips her natural curls. Her outfit is muted, too. Rather than the glitterbomb that’s her normal wardrobe, she’s just wearing a black t-shirt with a unicorn on the front. Her cuteness cannot be overstated! It’s a total departure from the Nickelodeon star’s public persona, and her fans were shook by the reveal. “Omg this is a whole other JoJo and I love it,” one commented. Another fan wrote, “Can we just take a minute and talk about how much that kind of hairstyle suits her?” They were prepared for JoJo to do something wild, though, after she said announced in a previous TikTok that “if I hit 19 million followers in 24 hours, I’ll do whatever the top comment says.”
She dodged a bullet there; for awhile, the top comment said “get a septum piercing and dye your hair dark.” Close one! It was soon replaced with “dress normal for a day.” While she didn’t make the 19 million goal, she got close enough and complied. JoJo Siwa surprised the world by ditching her signature look — and her fans are floored.
The Dance Moms alum, 16, who typically styles her hair in a super-high ponytail accessorized with large bows, switched things up on Tuesday in a new TikTok video, showing off her long, wavy locks.
In the video set to “Float on the Sound (Ey)” by Tiagz (which has over 14.3 millions views), Siwa appears in a rainbow-colored bomber jacket and matching bow, before quickly swapping into several other bold ensembles each paired with a side-ponytail. She finally ends the clip with a totally pared-down look — sporting her natural hair and a black T-shirt — which sent viewers buzzing.
One fan commented on the post, “Omg this is a whole other JoJo and i love it.” While another called the reveal a “historic moment.”
While social distancing at her candy-colored California home amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Siwa has treated fans to a numbers of posts showing off her bold fashion, as well as her killer dance moves, after having to cancel the rest of her D.R.E.A.M. tour.
In March, the YouTube star announced the cancellation in a statement on Instagram writing, “You all know that this tour means the world to me. I absolutely love going to every city and performing for all of you. I care about all my fans so much and keeping everyone safe is my top priority.”
Despite the tour cancellation, Siwa told PEOPLE in March that she still has upcoming projects on the horizon.
“I have so much and I just can’t talk about it. I have new music — I actually just got one of my new songs back, which I’m so excited to listen to. I’ve got music videos coming out, I’ve got more secret TV and movie situations coming out, but I can’t talk about any of them and it’s horrible!”
One of those “secret” TV projects happened to be her participation in The Masked Singer. It was recently revealed that she appeared as the T-Rex on the show. While she did not qualify for the Super Nine, she did talk to PEOPLE about her time on the show. “I think if anybody got the opportunity to be on The Masked Singer, they’d be crazy to say no,” said Siwa. “So for me, I was like, I have to do it! I can’t say no to this. It’s such a good opportunity.”
While her fans wait to see what she does next, Siwa has advice for how they can spend their time while social distancing at home. “Just do something that you’ve always wanted to do because now we have the time. Like for me, I’ve always wanted to get a six-pack and I’m like you know what, I have the time right now and I have the facilities, I’m doing it. So that’s my goal for this little time period. Learn a new language! Better yourself in this time.”

JoJo Siwa’s signature hairdo is a high ponytail topped with a statement-making bow. But besides the hairstyle, she’s also known for her long, blonde locks, which she once dyed pink without anyone noticing.
The 16-year-old YouTube sensation hopped on video chat with Us Weekly’s Stylish to tell us the story behind her pink hair and the bold looks she wants to try in the future.
“We went on a cruise ship over Christmas and I didn’t realize how hard it was going to be for me to be on a cruise ship, because you are so confined,” begins the Dance Moms alum. “And I couldn’t go anywhere or do anything without causing problems, for safety problems for everybody, for my safety and for the whole cruise ship’s safety. I didn’t think that many people would know who I was on the ship, but everybody did.”
“And so I had a bit of a crisis on the cruise ship and I couldn’t do anything except for things at the spa, which seems great until you’re out of spa treatments.”
“So we’re on a seven day cruise and finally on day three, I’m like, okay, I have had a mud massage, a seaweed massage, a rock massage, a salt massage, a normal massage, a deep tissue massage, a Swedish massage.”
“I was like, I have done everything. I was like, I’ve got to do something else. And they’re like, ‘Well we do hair.’ I went in and I was like, ‘Dye it.’ I was like, ‘I like bright colors, dye it.’ And they dyed my whole head pink!! Whole head pink!”
Siwa shared photos from the cruise on her Instagram feed, but didn’t post a photo of her new pink hair. It turns out that there’s a semi-complicated reason why fans never got a look at her colorful locks.
“The reason really why no one saw it is because that’s when I got back, is when we went to Australia, and it was always covered by the ponytail that I put in,” explains Siwa. “I put in an extra hair piece for tour. Then after that is when I did The Masked Singer, so I was always under a mask and no one ever saw it.”
The good news is that it’s likely the Nikelodeon actress will dye her hair again in the future — or maybe even cut it short! Right now, her “dream hair color” is “rainbow ombré” and she adores Pink’s super short hair.
But it doesn’t look like she’ll have locks as short as the “Just Give Me a Reason” singer anytime soon. She tells Us that she won’t chop off her long hair “for a long time.”

You know what they say — with beauty comes sacrifice! JoJo Siwa knows this all too well thanks to a particularly heavy bow.
The Dance Moms alum spoke with Us Weekly‘s Brody Brown on Tuesday, May 12, to discuss her backyard concerts “Worldwide Live” and Celebrity Watch Party on Fox, while also sharing some exclusive info on her signature side pony and bow look. While chatting about the history of her hairstyle, the 16-year-old revealed that one of her favorite bows weighs a whopping seven pounds!
“There was a special bow that I wear on tour that’s completely rhinestone and it literally weighs seven pounds,” she told Us. “It’s crazy heavy. And I think that would have to be my favorite.”
Of course, this is just one of many, many, accessories. “In the Jojo bow collection, there is over 12,000 different styles,” she says. “So there’s a lot.” No kidding!
She says sometimes fans will get excited to tell her they have all the bows. “It’s funny when people will be like, ‘I have every single Jojo bow,’ they’re like, ‘Yeah, I have like over 50!’ and they don’t even know that there’s 12,000,” she jokes. “I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s so many!’”
But to her there is no such thing as too many bows. “Honestly, I can’t remember a time when I didn’t wear a bow and a side ponytail.”
Though she still favors this look most of the time, the Nickelodeon star has recently appeared on social media sans her trademark style, causing quite a stir!
On Thursday, April 29, she commented on it in a TikTok video, writing, “Recently, I’ve been showing myself looking different — not the classic rainbow, sparkles and side ponytail with a JoJo bow. I’ve been hated on for YEARS for dressing ‘young’ and acting ‘childish.’ People think this is me changing. LOL nope! I love who I am!”
She continued, “This just me at night or in the morning!”
