'Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan' Season 1 Wraps Production

It’s a wrap for the cast and crew of Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan season one!

The star of Nickelodeon's new hit comedy series, Dylan Gilmer, showed a sneak peek of the wrap party to celebrate the finale on his Instagram page on Sunday, March 15, 2020.

Update (3/17) - It appears that Nickelodeon decided to wrap Young Dylan a bit early than planned due to the COVID-19 (aka coronavirus) outbreak. Young Dylan was picked up for an initially 14 episode run. It's currently unclear how many episodes were filmed before production wrapped - and if production will resume once it's safe to do so.

It's currently unknown whether COVID-19 is also currently affecting other Nickelodeon productions.

And it looks like Young Dylan, which is filmed at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, kicked off to great start with its first episode.

The February launch of the Nickelodeon sitcom was the network’s biggest in three years, reaching more than 2.6 million total viewers across six airings over the show's premiere weekend.

“Thank you army!!!! I so appreciate all of this love and support!! God bless you. Thank you for making these kids stars!! Young Dylan on @Nickelodeon every Saturday at 8:30/7:30c!!! #YoungDylan,” Perry wrote in an Instagram post.

Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan is Perry's first kid-scripted series for Nickelodeon. The series follows a family whose world is turned upside down when their nephew, Young Dylan, played by Gilmer, an aspiring hip-hop star, moves in unannounced.

Dylan’s grandmother Viola is played by actress Aloma Wright.

During the first episode that aired on Saturday, February 29, 2020, she realizes that raising her grandson is too much to take on, so she decides to send him to live indefinitely with her affluent son Myles Wilson (Carl Anthony Payne II), his wife Yasmine (Mieko Hillman), their two kids Rebecca (Celina Smith) and Charlie (Hero Hunter). The series also stars Jet Miller as Rebecca's best friend, Bethany.

The Wilson family household needs to adapt as lifestyles clash between rising hip-hop star Young Dylan and his straight-laced cousins.

The family’s transition together is comedic and reminisces other African-American sitcoms like Family Matters and The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air.

It's currently unknown whether Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan will be renewed for a season two.

Tyler Perry puts all projects on hold: 'This Too Shall Pass'

Perry has shutdown all production on his original programming for films and TV shows for networks like the Oprah Winfrey Network and BET.

ATLANTA — The impact of the coronavirus pandemic has swept through Georgia’s film and television industry.

Major productions from Netflix, Disney, and MGM Studios have postponed blockbuster projects in the making because of the widespread measures being used to fight the virus.

Atlanta entertainment titan Tyler Perry has shut down all production on his original programming for films and TV shows for networks including the Oprah Winfrey Network, Nickelodeon and BET. A rep from his studio tells 11Alive’s The A-Scene that Perry has placed all of those projects on hold.

Other productions that lease out space at Tyler Perry Studios have chosen to stop production as well. In the past year, Perry facilitated box office chart-toppers like “Bad Boys For Life,” “First Man,” and hit shows like MTV’s “Wild N Out” at the state-of-the-art production space.

The “A Fall From Grace” director went to social media on Tuesday to share his thoughts on the state of culture, and his own personal space. Perry shared a screenshot of the cover to Grammy-award winning singer Yolanda Adam’s “This Too Shall Pass.”

“Been listening to this song over and over to encourage myself, to stay positive, and to remember that this is all in God’s hands and that this too shall pass. But until then, we’ve got to take it seriously,” Perry wrote.

The extensive message revealed Perry’s thoughts on the personal lessons that social distancing will impact on society.

“I would love to see a lot more prayer and a lot less panic. A lot less finger-pointing and a lot less judgment. What I would love to see is us being one nation, under God, INDIVISIBLE!! Please listen to your local and state governments. Social distancing should be taken seriously,” Perry wrote.

In honor of the song, the Madea star then asked the public that believe in prayers to do so.

“And most of all, for those of us who do pray, let’s send up some strong and solid fasting and prayers for this nation, our world, and all of those affected by this, which is ALL OF US!! This too shall pass,” Perry wrote.
