Nickelodeon Russia Hosts Star Studied Red Carpet Premiere of 'Wonder Park'

To celebrate the Russian release of Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Animation's brand-new theatrical movie, Wonder Park, Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures Россия hosted a magical red carpet premiere for the movie at Каро Sky 17! The special screening event was well attended by Russian celebrities and their children, and featured cotton candy scented air, an amazing soap bubble show, and a meet and great with a Boomer, the big blue bear from the movie!

"Paramount’s [...] animated feature Wonder Park opened to $16M and though better than the $10M-$14M it was expected to do, isn’t enough to consider this under-$100M production a success. A $20M-plus opening would have been a better optic (some rivals were estimating on Friday that Wonder Park might actually get there). The movie has been challenged to reach the big screen since its production start five years ago. It’s a younger-skewing pic, with kids under 9 repping 53% of the under-12 crowd. Kids give the pic 4 stars and the under 18 set an A, but it’s the parents that have to sit through this and they’re not impressed with a 3 1/2 stars on PostTrak. Famlies repped 62%. CinemaScore is B+. Ironically the title isn’t uttered in the movie; they call it ‘Wonderland’. Disney’s Dumbo will soon be here on March 28 to shut Wonder Park down.

Diversity breakdown for Wonder Park was 52% Caucasian, 20% Hispanic, 17% Asian/Other, and 11% African-American. Wonder Park played best in the Mid & South-West with Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, San Antonio, Toronto, Kansas City leading the way.

While Wonder Park has been without a director since Jan. 2018, when Dylan Brown was fired for inappropriate and unwanted conduct, the pic’s problems were apparent well before Paramount animation changed its leadership ranks (Bob Bacon exited in August 2015; DreamWorks Animation’s Mireille Soria arrived in July 2017), and there’s only so many fixes that can be done on an animation film in its latter phases of production. Word is that the mother originally died in the film, and that was considered too severe. If the story is complete, the animation and character design are already on a runway, and to go back in and fix would have cost the studio millions. In such cases, there’s some tweaks that can be done with dialogue or small animation sequences to make up for missing logic. One rival animation insider told us 'The campaign isn’t horrible. It just seems that all the good parts of the movie are in the trailer.'"

Wonder Park, an animated family film from Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies, earned $700,000 (USD) in its Thursday (March 14, 2019) box office previews from 2,620 screens. The pic opens on approximately 3,838 screens this weekend and is expected to do between $10M-$14M. The film is also rolling out worldwide over the coming weeks.


Paramount is looking at an opening weekend between $10-$14 million for the children’s fantasy tale, but it will be contending with Marvel's new superhero film Captain Marvel. Wonder Park is tracking similarly to Paramount’s Sherlock Gnomes, which opened in March last year to $10.6 million on a $59 million budget.

Wonder Park tells the story of a magnificent amusement park where the imagination of a wildly creative girl named June comes alive. One magical day, June is running through the woods to find her way home where she discovers an old rollercoaster car and climbs inside. She suddenly finds herself in Wonderland, an amusement park she had created in her mind and put aside. All of her rides and characters are brought to life but are falling into disarray without her. Now, with the help of her fun and lovable park characters, June will have to put the wonder back in Wonderland before it is lost forever.

The flick cost an estimated $100M net to produce and has been in the works since 2014, when the late Brad Grey was in charge of the lot. Previews kicked off on Thursday, March 14, 2019.

The star-studded voice cast of Wonder Park includes Matthew Broderick (Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Rules Don’t Apply, The Producers) as Dad, Jennifer Garner (Nine Lives, The Tribes of Palos Verdes) as Mom, Kenan Thompson (All That, Kenan & Kel, Good Burger, SNL) as Gus, Ken Jeong (Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, Bob’s Burgers) as Cooper, Mila Kunis (Family Guy, A Bad Moms Christmas) as Greta, John Oliver (The Daily Show, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, live-action Lion King) as Steve, Ken Hudson Campbell, who voices Boomer the Bear, Sofia Mali as Young June, Brianna Denski (Momsters: When Moms Go Bad) as June, Oev Michael Urbas as Banky, Norbert Leo Butz (Bloodline) as Peanut, Kate McGregor-Stewart as Aunt Albertine, Kevin Chamberlin as Uncle Tony, Kath Soucie (Rugrats, Hey Arnold!) as Bus Counselor Shannon, and Noen Perez as Chatty Kid.



The PG-rated film is written by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows) from a story by Applebaum (Origin), Nemec (Knightfall), and Robert Gordon (Galaxy Quest). Appelbaum, Nemec, and Kendra Haaland serve as producers, with Karen Rosenfelt and Don Hahn executive producing. The movie is being produced by Paramount Animation, Nickelodeon Movies and Ilion Animation Studios. A director has yet to be announced for the movie.

Also opening this weekend are Five Feet Apart from Lionsgate, starring Haley Lu Richardson and Cole Sprouse, and Captive State from director Rupert Wyatt via Focus Features.

Wonder Park is scheduled to roll into theaters on Friday, March 15, 2019. An animated television series based on the film will also debut on Nickelodeon in 2019.

Funrise, Inc. will serve as the worldwide master toy partner for the franchise.

Nickelodeon has launched Super Brawl Universe, an all-new mobile game based on the popular online title — the ultimate arcade action game where players battle iconic characters from the most popular Nicktoons, globally! In Super Brawl Universe, users can recruit new and nostalgic characters from Nickelodeon’s catalog of animated shows to assemble the ultimate team and enter the Super Brawl tournament. Awesomeness Names Viacom International Studios as International Distribution Partner

Viacom International Studios (VIS) has become the international distribution partner for a large portfolio of premium series and films within the Awesomeness catalog, and a deal is already in place with RTL Germany for a range of programming.


The LA-based media company, which focuses on creating original content for Gen Z (those born in the mid-90s onwards) through its film and TV divisions, was acquired by Viacom in 2018.

Under the agreement, VIS’s international content sales team will be responsible for representing 18 series and eight films within the Awesomeness portfolio for third-party distribution internationally. This includes the Emmy Award-winning series Zac & Mia; Hulu/Wattpad supernatural thriller Light as a Feather, starring Peyton List; and You’ve Been Tagged, a social media thriller featuring Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before).

Lauren Marriott, Vice President (VP) of international content sales at VIS, said: “We are incredibly excited to add the Awesomeness portfolio of high quality and highly compelling scripted series and films to our distribution slate ahead of this year’s MIPTV. We look forward to giving our partners the opportunity to add even more Awesomeness to their schedules that will appeal to Gen Z audiences everywhere.”

“As we continue to reach and engage Gen Z globally, we believe VIS’s expertise and large scale network of distribution partners can help us build our profile and expand our brand footprint worldwide,” said Zachary Slatter, head of distribution for Awesomeness.

Viacom has yet to name any other new or previously launched titles from the deal—or whether or not it is now the exclusive distributor for all Awesomeness content going forward.

The deal coincides with a new content partnership agreement with Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland (RTL Germany) to launch a slew of Awesomeness programming on their new SVOD service TVNOW. The new TV NOW Premium package offers a wide range of exclusive programming, live content and popular German and international series. The agreement includes seasons one and two of Awesomeness shows Freakish, Guidance and Zac & Mia, as well as season one of Light as a Feather and all three seasons of T@gged. The content will be available for streaming via TV Now in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Moritz Pohl, head of Video on Demand (VOD) content at Mediengruppe RTL, commented: “With TV NOW we recently launched a new full-featured and stand-alone streaming service for the mass market to entertain, inform and move people all over Germany. Thanks to the partnership with Awesomeness and VIMN, we can supplement our exclusive content with high-quality programs for the increasingly important young audience.”

In the lead-up to MIPTV, VIS is looking to target both linear and SVOD platforms, and the underserved 12-to-16 demo, in particular, with a large proportion of the Awesomeness catalogue.

Originally launched as AwesomenessTV in 2012, Viacom acquired the LA-based digital media company from Comcast/NBCUniversal, Hearst and Verizon in 2018 to bolster its new Digital Studios library. In the wake of the acquisition, Awesomeness CEO Jordan Levin departed leaving room for Rebecca Glashow and Shelley Zimmerman to join last September as co-heads.

Awesomeness was co-founded in 2012 by Brian Robbins and producer Joe Davola. Robbins later became President of Paramount Pictures’ Paramount Players division, and in October 2018, was appointed president of Nickelodeon.

Nickelodeon previously partnered with AwesomenessTV for a comedy sketch show in 2013, as well as a movie, Terry the Tomboy, in 2014.

Viacom is to roll out its ad-supported video streaming service Pluto TV internationally after its $340M acquisition closed earlier this month, Deadline reports.

James Currell, President of Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) in the UK, Northern and Eastern Europe, said that it will largely focus on advertising-backed services rather than subscription platforms.

Speaking at the Oxford Media Convention, he said, “Viacom believes the global SVOD sector is becoming too crowded and capital intensive. So, instead, we’re focused on building scale in ad-supported streaming. We’ve acquired Pluto TV and we plan to use our deep content libraries to accelerate its international roll-out, starting in Latin America.”

Pluto TV, which is led by President and CEO Tom Ryan was founded in 2013 and streams more than 100 channels in a range of genres, claiming more than 12 million monthly active users across devices.

Currell pointed to Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) plans by the likes of Disney, Comcast, Time Warner, Apple and Google, but added that it was notable that Amazon had launched Freedive, an ad-supported movie service and added that there was speculation that Netflix may introduce an ad-supported offering or tier.

However, he said that Viacom’s flagship brands, which include Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., MTV, Comedy Central and VH1, have “significant potential to pivot further towards premium… if or when that proves expedient”.

Content from Viacom’s Channel 5 is also expected to join BritBox in the UK, the SVOD service being established by the BBC and ITV. “Viacom stands ready to partner to enhance the local content eco-system,” he said, echoing comments from C4 CEO Alex Mahon last week at Israeli TV conference INTV.

Currell used his keynote speech to highlight the performance and growth of C5 since it acquired it in 2014. He pointed to the fact that it is moving back into scripted drama for the first time in many years and the fact that it is “making a name for itself” with documentaries such as Michael Palin in North Korea and Raped: My Story. He said that C5 has brought it greater scale and a range of associated synergies across ad sales, content, marketing and commercial deal and helped to diversify its UK revenues as well as giving it access to a much wider pipeline of quality local content.

“I think it’s indisputable that under American ownership Channel 5 today is making a more valuable contribution to the broader British broadcasting ecology than it has ever done,” he said. “As a result of the benefits that Viacom has brought to Channel 5 and which Channel 5 has brought to Viacom, I look forward to us making an even more significant contribution to the UK’s commercial broadcasting ecology in the future.”

Cape Town International Animation Festival and Comic Con to partner in 2020


At the eighth edition of the overwhelmingly successful Cape Town International Animation Festival, which took place from 8 to 10 March, the exciting announcement was made that the Cape Town International Animation Festival will partner with Comic Con from 2020, creating a Comic Com Cape Town.

The CTIAF, which sold out by the first afternoon, this year hosted speakers including Academy Award-winning producer Aron Warner, and Academy Award-winning director Peter Ramsey, who picked up the Oscar for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse just days before flying to the Festival.

Speaking at one of his sessions, Warner commented that the South African animation industry has huge potential and is like a boiling pot waiting to explode into something major.

Other keynote international speakers included Tomoya Imai and David Prescott of Skydance Animation; Archita Ghosh, Marc Moynihan, Furio Tedeschi and Isaac Mogajane, as well as guests from Canada, Japan, France, Germany, Uganda, Ghana, Zimabawe, Zambia, Nigeria, and many who have travelled from other parts of South Africa.

The weekend kicked off with the popular annual Student Awards on Thursday evening that have become a cornerstone of the festival’s commitment to developing the next generation of animators. The initiative recognises student works across a variety of categories, for both team and individual projects. There were an incredible 107 entries this year and the judging panel comprised of 21 industry leaders. “PAW Patrol Live!,” a theatrical performance, kicked off its China tour on February 26.

Children in major Chinese cities will be able to enjoy “Race to the Rescue” and “The Great Pirate Adventure” from “PAW Patrol Live!” in the coming months.

Based on the hit animated TV series on Nickelodeon, the shows will bring lovely pups on the stage for an action-packed and dynamic musical adventure.

The pups will give a new interpretation of the slogan “no job is too big, no pup is too small,” and share lessons about social skills, problem-solving and teamwork.

“Race to the Rescue” is a story about the PAW Patrol’s mission to rescue Mayor Goodway and help her finish the race. In “The Great Pirate Adventure,” the PAW Patrol sets out over land and sea to find the pirate treasure.

The live action will feature up-tempo music, original script and classic theatrical scenery. By May, a total of 241 shows will be staged across 20 cities in China, including Shanghai, Hangzhou and Wuhan.

The fans flocked to the special screening, hosted by Entertainment One (eOne) at the cinema's Leicester Square location on Sunday, March 17th to mark the latest in the Peppa Pig brand's year-long 15th anniversary celebrations.

The series' co-creator Neville Astley, producer Phil Davies and voice talent Harley Bird, (Peppa), Morwenna Banks (Mummy Pig) and John Sparkes (Narrator) were joined by celebrities, influencers, press, brand partners and their children at the screening.

It was held ahead of event ahead of the nationwide cinema release in the UK on Friday 5th April 2019 during the Easter holidays.

Children dressed in festival themed outfits enjoyed activities such as face painting, arts and crafts, storytelling, balloon modelling and took part in a special Move with Peppa dance routine from licensee Tumuv before the feature was unveiled to audiences.

For Peppa’s latest big screen adventure, eOne has created a new hour-long theatrical release entitled Peppa Pig Festival of Fun, which gives preschoolers ten brand new and never-before-broadcast episodes featuring a two-part festival special where Peppa and George have their first-ever festival experience, complete with new characters and locations. 12 сентября 2018 года[2] специалисты ведомства сделали запись эфирного цифрового вещания телеканала «Nickelodeon» и измерили соотношение уровня громкости анонсов, сообщений о рекламе и рекламы и среднего уровня громкости прерываемой рекламой телепередачи.

Измерение показало превышение громкости звука анонсов по отношению к громкости звука межрекламных фрагментов в ряде случаев от 1,7 дБ до 2,1дБ при допустимых 1,5 дБ.

ФАС России предписала ООО «МТВ Нетворкс Ник Восток» как рекламораспространителю устранить нарушения закона.

При этом, в соответствии с частью 16 статьи 14 Закона о рекламе требования части 12 статьи 14 данного закона распространяются также на информацию о телепередачах, транслируемых по соответствующему телеканалу (анонсы), а также на сообщения о рекламе.

Согласно пункту 7 Методики соотношения уровня громкости звука рекламы и передачи, значение громкости звука блока рекламы или анонсов не должно превышать значение громкости звука дорекламного либо пострекламного фрагмента более чем на 1,5 дБ.

Методика измерений соотношения уровня громкости рекламы и среднего уровня громкости прерываемой рекламой теле- и радиопрограммы, утверждена Приказом ФАС России от 22.05.2015 № 374/15 (зарегистрирован Минюстом России 17.07.2015 рег. № 38079).

В соответствии с частью 7 статьи 38 Закона о рекламе рекламораспространитель несет ответственность за нарушение требований, установленных статьей 14 Закона о рекламе.

В соответствии с частью 1 статьи 14.3 КоАП РФ за нарушение части 12 статьи 14 ФЗ «О рекламе» предусмотрен административный штраф в размере от 100 до 500 тысяч рублей.
