Netflix Confirms No Current Plans to Add 'Drake & Josh'

A viral tweet that said that Netflix could potentially be adding Nickelodeon's hit noughties comedy series Drake & Josh to its programming library has been debunked by the popular streaming service.

Drake & Josh follows a pair of stepbrothers with very different personalities. In the series, Bell played charming, work-averse ladies' man Drake Parker who pulled his ever-responsible and sensitive stepbrother Josh Nichols (Josh Peck) into perpetual hi-jinks. Shared antics cement a growing brotherly bond, while perennial teen issues and dilemmas came to light. Miranda Cosgrove (iCarly, Yours, Mine & Ours, The School of Rock) co-starred as Drake and Josh's little sister, Megan, a mischievous kid with a penchant for pulling practical jokes, especially on her older brothers. Nancy Sullivan (The Amanda Show) and Jonathan Goldstein (The Middle) played their loving parents Audrey Parker and Walter Nichols. Drake & Josh was created by Nickelodeon hit maker Dan Schneider, the creator, writer, and producer of hit Nickelodeon shows such as iCarly, Henry Danger, Game Shakers, Victorious, The Amanda Show, Zoey 101, Kenan & Kel, All That" (plus What I Like About You, which Nickelodeon UK showed in the mid-2000's), and the Nickelodeon Movie Good Burger. Drake & Josh originally ran on Nickelodeon between 2004 and 2008, and features two TV movies - Drake & Josh Go Hollywood and Merry Christmas, Drake & Josh, and a TV special Really Big Shrimp.

The series has been exclusive to Netflix rival Hulu up until now and will continue to after today’s revelation.

The viral tweet in question started making the rounds after it was tweeted on September 21st. The tweet says simply “Yo twitter let’s make it happen” with an image of a Direct Message (DM) chat with Netflix asking how many retweets it would take to get Drake and Josh streaming. This sort of tweet circulates constantly but usually fades out after a while, out but this one, in particular, went viral. Is Megan behind this?

Netflix usually doesn’t comment on rampant speculation or things like this but did so with this tweet responding in two ways. The first was to debunk the direct message chat by saying “Love the passion but that DM is photoshopped. Sorry!”. It then follows up with a retweet suggesting Drake & Josh fans check out Hulu. In true Drake & Josh style, Hulu extends a hug to Netflix in response.

Although the majority of Nickelodeon programming is staying off Netflix for the time being, Netflix will be adding a brand-new Nickelodeon show called Pinky Malinky very soon. Netflix is also partnering with Nickelodeon to produce its brand-new live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series.

Drake & Josh isn't the first Nickelodeon show to be targeted by a fake Tweet. Each year, a rumour that SpongeBob SquarePants has been cancelled circulates, with this years being so widespread that Nickelodeon had to confirm that the beloved animated series isn't going anywhere soon.
