UK: Channel 5’s Milkshake! Acquires Rights To "Floogals"

Banijay Group’s Zodiak Kids has inked a U.K. deal with Channel 5’s Milkshake! for the popular preschool series Floogals, a brand-new preschool series based on the original idea by Dan Good!

The first series (freshman season) of Floogals has been revoiced with a U.K. cast and debuted earlier this week as part of Channel 5’s refreshed Milkshake! programming block. The show, which combines CGI and live action, follows the adventures of Fleeker, Flo and Boomer, a group of pocket-sized, inquisitive alien adventurers who head to Earth on a mission of discovery and learning. It was developed by Zodiak Kids Studios with Jellyfish Pictures. Co-production partners include Sprout and the NBCUniversal-owned Nevision.

Zodiak Kids CEO Jean-Philippe Randisi remarked: “We are delighted to add Channel 5 to the global sales roster of over 150 territories that have already seen international success. Milkshake! will be a great U.K. home for this British-born hit.”

Sarah Muller, the head of children’s at Channel 5, noted: “I am so happy to be bringing this home-grown series to the Milkshake! audience. Floogals is a sophisticated piece of British storytelling that will bring a fantastic and funny world alive for our young audience.”

Nigel Pickard, executive producer of Floogals and director at Nevision, added: “We look forward to working with the Channel 5 team to create the British version of Floogals that will entertain and inform the British audience.”

Although the series is homegrown in the UK, only a Gaelic version had previously aired in the UK on BBC Alba.

The 52 x 11-minute series made its television debut across the pond in the USA on preschool network Sprout last year.

To date, the series has been sold in more than 150 territories to broadcasters including Piwi+ (Canal +, France), Discovery Kids (Latin America), ABC (Australia), DeA Kids and Cartoonito (Italy), TVO and Knowledge Network (Canada), Hop! Channel (Israel), Spectrum Film (Indonesia), YLE (Finland), Canal Panda (Portugal), Thai PBS Kids, Radio Television (Hong Kong), MediaCorp (Singapore), WeKids (China), MBC (Middle East) and Discovery Kids Asia Networks (pan territory deal).

On the licensing side, the IP’s master toy partner—Florida-based toyco Just Play—is set to launch products in the US this summer and across North America this fall.
