Pupils At A Shoreham School Win Southern Water's Recent Water Efficiency Competition With The Help Of GabiH2O

The British regional newspaper the West Sussex Gazette is reporting the news in the following article that a class at a Shoreham school recently won a trip to Drusillas Park, Animal Zoo and Adventure Park in Alfriston after beating 45 schools in Southern Water's water efficiency competition!

Schools taking part in the contest were provided with a lesson plan and posters to form an interactive session in the classroom, fulfilling part of the National Curriculum in a fun way. The plan was produced with the help of GabiH2O, a London-based eco-brand which campaigns to promote water efficiency to children across the UK, which includes Gabi the Rapping Water-Saving Camel, who appears in GabiH2O's water-saving initiative interstitials on Nickelodeon UK and Ireland and a dedicated campaign website on Nick UK's official website, Nick.co.uk:
Wise owls win a trip to zoo

WISE owls from a Shoreham school won a trip to the zoo after beating 45 schools in a water efficiency competition.

Children from the owls class at Buckingham Park Primary School beat schools from Sussex and Kent in the Southern Water competition.

The goal was to learn about the importance of saving water and the children were taught simple habits, such as switching off the tap when brushing their teeth.

They also had to set up an investigation to demonstrate the water cycle and prove their understanding of evaporation, condensation and conservation.

Teacher Verity White said: “The children thoroughly enjoyed the programme, especially setting up the investigation, which involved using Clingfilm, a kettle, weights, a bowl, a mug and a rubber band.”

Geoff Loader, Southern Water’s director of communications, went along to the Buckingham Road school last Monday to present the children with their prize of an outing to Drusillas Park in Alfriston.

“This is a great success for the children in Owls Class,” he said.

“They have worked hard to beat more than 1,300 other children to win this competition. I hope they enjoy their day out at the zoo.”
