Debut of 'Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years' Garners Solid Ratings for Nickelodeon

Nickelodeon's sneak peek of Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years garnered solid ratings for the network!


Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years prequel series, the newest addition to the SpongeBob SquarePants universe, scored Nickelodeon the top telecast of 2021 to date with Kids 2-11 on ad supported TV in its Friday, April 2 episode.

In Live+Same Day, the episode averaged a 1.7/336K with Kids 2-11, an increase of +31% year over year. The telecast also ranked number one for the week with Kids 6-11, averaging a 1.5/179K, posting double-digit year-over-gains (+36%); and drew 714,000 total viewers.

In Live +3 Kamp Koral posted double-digit lifts of +24% among Kids 2-11, averaging a 2.2/416K. With Kids 6-11 the telecast averaged a 1.5/179K, posting a +32% increase in Live +3. The episode also posted double-digit lifts with total viewers, up +20% (855K).

Additionally, the series premiere of The Barbarian and the Troll, which drew over 600,000 total viewers and was the No. 2 telecast for the week.

Produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years debuted March 4 on the newly rebranded Paramount+ streaming service. Following the season’s run on Paramount+, the series will air on Nickelodeon in September, as season two premieres on Paramount+.

In the first-ever SpongeBob SquarePants spinoff, the CG-animated prequel follows 10-year-old SpongeBob SquarePants and his pals as they spend their summer building underwater campfires, catching wild jellyfish, and swimming in Lake Yuckymuck at the craziest camp in the kelp forest, Kamp Koral.

Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years features Tom Kenny (SpongeBob), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick), Rodger Bumpass (Squidward), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs), Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy) and Mr. Lawrence (Plankton) reprising their iconic roles. Carlos Alazraqui (Rocko's Modern LifeThe Casagrandes) and Kate Higgins (Blaze and the Monster Machines) join as new characters Nobby and Narlene, narwhal siblings who live in the woods surrounding the camp.

Marc Ceccarelli (SpongeBob SquarePants), Vincent Waller (SpongeBob SquarePants) and Jennie Monica (SpongeBob SquarePants) are co-executive producers of the series. Production of Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years is overseen by Kelley Gardner, Vice President, Current Series Animation, Nickelodeon.

• In Live + Same Day Nickelodeon’s Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years averaged a 1.7/336K with Kids 2-11, posting an increase of +31% year over year. Kamp Koral launched on Paramount+ on March 4th and the series is slated to premiere on Nickelodeon later this year.

• Following the Kamp Koral episode, Nickelodeon debuted its brand-new live-action series The Barbarian and the Troll (Friday, April 2, at 7:30 p.m. [ET/PT]), which posted double-digit year-over-year gains with Kids 2-11 (1.4/271K, +17%) and was the number-two telecast for the week with Kids 6-11 (1.3/153K, +30%), only after Kamp Koral. The show also drew 607K total viewers (+10% vs year ago).

• In Live + 3 The Barbarian and the Troll telecast posted double-digit gains with Kids 2-11 (1.4/271K, up +13% vs LSD) and Kids 6-11 (1.3/153K, up +21%), up +23% and +34% over the live-action genre average, respectively. The episode also posted double-digit lifts with total viewers, up +19% (725K).

Rankings for National Geographic, Hallmark Channel, Travel Channel, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon MotorTrend, and Discovery Life increased in this year’s Beta Research Brand Identity Study. The top ranked basic cable networks, described as a favorite channel among viewers age 18+, were: ID (51%), Nat Geo (50%), Hallmark Channel (50%), Food Network (49%), HGTV (49%), Travel Channel (49%), Comedy Central (49%), Nickelodeon (48%), Bravo (47%), and Disney Channel (47%). Top ranked digital basic networks were MotorTrend (53%), INSP (52%), Discovery Life (51%), American Heroes (50%), and Science (50%).

Networks that viewers A25-54 said they especially like to watch during the pandemic were cable’s Bravo (57%), Food Network (56%), Nat Geo (56%), Travel Channel (56%), Discovery Channel (54%), CNN (53%), Oxygen (53%), Hallmark Channel (52%), ESPN (52%), MSNBC (52%), MTV (52%) and CNBC (52%). Hallmark Movies & Mysteries (56%), Great American Country (54%), INSP (54%), MotorTrend (54%), Destination America (53%), Cooking Channel (52%), Hallmark Drama (52%) and Sundance TV (52%) were top ranked digital basic networks.
