Melanie Chartoff Reveals She Won't Be Reprising Her Role of 'Didi Pickles' in 'Rugrats' Reboot

Actor and author Melanie Chartoff has revealed she won't be reprising her iconic role of Didi Pickles in Nickelodeon's upcoming CG-animated Rugrats reboot - at least not for the first season.

In a interview with CTPost, Chartoff, 72, revealed that, as the new episodes will focus more on the babies with less attention on the parents, she hasn’t yet been asked to reprise her role, but hopes she can be a part of it in the future.

However, with Rugrats making a CGI comeback later this year, Chartoff, who voiced the red-haired mother of Tommy Pickles (whose voice she modeled after her own mother) and other characters for nine seasons, four movies and various spin-offs, has nothing but praise the cartoon’s ability to cater to both adults and children — a reason why it’s remained iconic for so long.

“Now it’s so popular because new kids are discovering it," Chartoff said. "Their parents are re-discovering it. It’s ageless.

“It’s been a huge part of my life,” Chartoff said. “I got a good 30 years out of it.”

Actor Melanie Chartoff, 71, of Los Angeles, holds two Rugrats characters that she helped
make famous with her voice, Didi Pickles on the left and Didi's mother, Minka, on the right.

You can read Chartoff's fantastic interview with the CTPost, in which she also talks about her recently-released debut memoir, Odd Woman Out: Exposure in Essays and Stories, on ctpost.com!

Nickelodeon's new Rugrats series is set to premiere on Paramount+ later this year. The classic series is also available to stream on Paramount+.
