HOLLYWOOD, Calif.—July 9, 2020—Nickelodeon bakes up a birthday surprise with Cake My Day, a one-of-a-kind special executive produced by television host Rachael Ray and culinary expert Amirah Kassem. Hosted by Kassem (Top Elf), founder of Flour Shop in New York and creator of the sprinkle-filled Rainbow Explosion Cake, the special gives a deserving kid the opportunity to bake the cake of their dreams. Cake My Day airs Friday, July 17, at 7:30 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon.

Said Ray, “With my favorite unicorn Amirah Kassem spreading her signature sprinkles and smiles, Cake My Day is a delicious celebration that I can’t wait to share with families everywhere. This is a show guaranteed to fill your day with color and cake! And will leave you racing into the kitchen to use Amirah’s tips and tricks to whip up some crazy creations of your own.”

Amirah Kassem

Said Kassem, “I'm so, so excited to show the world how we can all use birthdays to create more joy for everyone around us. Cake My Day was born out of a way of life I like to call the ‘Birthday Lifestyle,’ where we live everyday like it's our birthday by being with our favorite people, dressing in our favorite clothes, and of course, eating our favorite foods! It's more important than ever to remember that we can all create happiness through celebration, and no matter what is happening in the world, we need to celebrate one another. Full of surprises, my hope is that Cake My Day will inspire kids, and adults, to live the birthday lifestyle and celebrate their family and friends. We need to keep spreading magic, rainbows, glitter, unicorns and eating cake!”

In Cake My Day, Kassem invites Charlotte, a triplet who has never had a birthday that felt like her own, to her colorful kitchen to bake a Rainbow Explosion Cake together. Charlotte, however, has no idea that her brothers Oliver and Sam have secretly planned for the day of cakemaking to turn into the biggest surprise birthday celebration she has ever had. The special also features an appearance by DIY content creator Karina Garcia and a performance by dance superstars The Lab.

Cake My Day is produced by Propagate, with Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens and Kevin Healey executive producing, and Watch Entertainment, with Rachael Ray and Jonny Umansky serving as executive producers. Amirah Kassem also executive produces, along with Nickelodeon’s Unscripted Content executives Rob Bagshaw, Mandel Ilagan and Stacey Carr. Production of Cake My Day for Nickelodeon is overseen by Rob Bagshaw, Executive Vice President, Unscripted Content.

BSCKids: Amirah, tell us a little bit about how this show came about and how you got involved?

Amirah Kassem: I love birthdays, surprises and feel-good shows! I wanted to create a day dedicated to making birthdays magical for children who might not otherwise get to celebrate their birthdays the way they would dream of! Naturally Nickelodeon felt like the perfect home for a feel-good, fun show! After all they are the surprise SLIME masters!

How was it working with Rachael Ray on the show?

I have always looked up to Rachael Ray. She just makes cooking so easy and fun, so getting to work with her is definitely a dream! It’s amazing that she uses her platform to raise up other women who are trying to follow in her footsteps.

Were there any funny behind the scenes things that happened during filming you can talk about?

Yes! Mr. Sprinkles was bonkers and kept making a mess with all the ingredients!

Tell us a bit about the favorite thing you have baked and what your favorite Instagram post that you have.

Wow, that’s a tough one because every day I get to create something new and exciting! But, if I must choose, I guess I would say videos of my Rainbow Explosion Cake! No matter how many times I’ve watched it happen I still get so much joy from it every time!

Do you have any favorite Instagram or YouTube bakers you follow?

Yes! Yolanda Gampp. I love watching her creativity and her energy come to life!

The story of Charlotte is wonderful, how was it working with the family?

Charlotte has an amazing family! When I watched their video nominating Charlotte you could just tell how loved she is and how excited they all were to surprise her. I feel so lucky to have spent time with them.

We have to ask… what is your favorite Nickelodeon show besides Cake My Day?

Rugrats! But currently SpongeBob! And to all the SpongeBob fans out there, how cool is it that Cake My Day is airing on SpongeBob’s BIRTHDAY!!!!???

If you had to be on a baking challenge show, which one would it be and why?

Master Chef Junior! It looks like they have the most fun while competing! Well, that and Aarón Sánchez is a friend from my hometown, so I bet we have a similar palate! 😉

In one sentence, tell us all why we should be tuning in to Cake My Day…

If you like baking, birthdays, surprises and unlimited fun then Cake My Day is where the magic is at!

Special thanks to Amirah and make sure to tune in to watch Nickelodeon’s Cake My Day!
