Two separate competitions were awarded Thursday (June 6, 2019) night in a joint ceremony: Global Excellence and North America. The first competition recognizes outstanding achievement from the leading media companies on every continent; The latter competition celebrates marketing and design teams in the United States and Canada. The Promax Awards 2019 ceremony was hosted by Penny & Sparrow at the JW Marriott at L.A. LIVE.

The ceremony is the culmination of the Promax Conference 2019, the annual summit where the world’s leading media companies and agencies gather for three days of cutting edge insights, strategy, creativity and professional development.

Winners are chosen in a two-step process: an initial round of online peer judging by Promax members and the Board of Directors determines the finalists, while a second round of juries convened in Los Angeles and New York selects the winners.

This year, for the first time ever, jurors from Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America convened in New York for a Global Excellence Awards jury. Representing Nickelodeon on the jury was Michael Waldron.

Viacom18 Media, WATConsult win big at 2019 BrandVid Awards

Viacom18 Media won three gold metals at the inaugural edition of the awards

MUMBAI: The first edition of Indiantelevision.com's BrandVid Awards, which recognized the best-in-class brand films, brand integration and branded programming, was a huge success with several agencies, production houses, and projects winning big for cutting-edge work in the world of branded video.

The big winners on the night were Viacom18 Media Pvt Ltd with seven metals and WATConsult, from the Dentsu Aegis Network stable, with six. Viacom18 Media Pvt Ltd also won the maximum gold metals on the occasion.

Viacom18's impressive tally comprised 3 golds, 3 silvers and one bronze. This also included wins of Best Creative Director for Sanhita Das and Next Gen Award for Vedushi Sinha. Its ‘Nickelodeon Egg Opera Ident’ won the gold in ‘Best Brand Film: Entertainment and Media’ category, silver in ‘Most Innovative Brand Video’ category, and bronze in ‘Non-Fiction’ category.

WATConsult won 1 gold for ‘#Unplanned (Bajaj Allianz General Insurance)’, 2 silvers for ‘Main’ Se ‘Hum’ Real Life Real Stories ft. Pabiben (SBI Life Insurance) and Zor Mat Lagao (Naturolax), and 3 bronze metals for #IndiasBestFreestyler (Apollo Tyres), Tata Harrier Conquers Ladakh (Tata Motors PVBU), and Ensure Diaries Campaign (Ensure) campaigns.

Pocket Aces bagged the Best Branded Content Studio while Excel Entertainment Pvt Ltd. was recognised for making the Most Innovative Brand Video for Gold ‘Stand Up For Gold’. MTV India was honoured with the BrandVid Movers and Shakers of the Year award for its exemplary creative contribution to the industry.

Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (Zee Cinema) took home the gold in the ‘Best Use of Social Media by a Brand’ category for its ‘#ZingaatWorkoutChallenge’ for the movie Dhadak.

Nickelodeon, MTV and Comedy Central Could Be Pulled Virgin Media in the UK as Carriage Deadline Looms

Nickelodeon, MTV and Comedy Central could be pulled from British pay-TV service Virgin Media as the deadline for carriage negotiations between Viacom and the Liberty Global-owned platform approaches.


Update (31/8) - Viacom has been displaying on-screen messages to Virgin Media UK customers on numerous channels, directing viewers to a website - keepmyviacom.co.uk - to find out more information and to register their protest using hashtags on social media. According to messages being sent to customers, the channels were due to be axed at midnight on 31st August 2019 if a deal couldn't be reached.


The channels, as well as a number of Channel 5 spin-offs including 5Star, as well as Nicktoons, Nick Jr., VH1 and Paramount, could go black on the service as soon as this weekend if the two companies do not reach an agreement. “We are in ongoing negotiations with Virgin Media,” a Viacom spokesman told Deadline.

The move could lead to the loss of shows such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Impractical Jokers, Peppa Pig, PAW Patrol, The Loud House, Friends and Peppa Pig but Viacom’s free-to-air network Channel 5 is not affected.

It is the latest carriage concern for Viacom internationally; the company struck a last minute carriage deal with AT&T in the U.S, which avoided the blackout of channels including MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and the Paramount Network will on AT&T’s DirecTV, Watch TV and U-Verse services.

Carriage is becoming an increasingly fraught issue both in the U.S. and in the UK in the last twelve months. CBS had a carriage dispute with AT&T which saw stations in New York City, Los Angeles and across the nation go dark on DirecTV, DirecTV Now and U-verse cable systems for a couple of weeks before a deal was signed.

In the UK, Virgin Media subscribers were left without UKTV channels including Taskmaster network Dave and Flack broadcaster W after the two companies warred for weeks. Discovery and Sky also had a public carriage row in 2017 that saw the factual broadcaster call out the pay-TV broadcaster, then backed by the Murdochs, for “refusing to pay a fair price”.

There was a similar dispute in the UK nearly 15 years ago, when Telewest Broadband's cable service dropped Nickelodeon channels on December 17th, 2004. They were re-added to the service on February 12th 2005. Telewest later merged with NTL, which later renamed itself to Virgin Media. Leading up to the blackout, Nickelodeon's channels in the UK aired promos advising viewers to ring up Telewest and ask them to keep Nickelodeon, Nicktoons and Nick Jr.



A Virgin Media spokesman told Deadline, “All of these channels remain on Virgin TV and we continue to have positive and constructive discussions with Viacom.”

Are You Afraid of the Dark? is a Canadian Twilight Zone-esqie anthology series created by D.J. MacHale and Ned Kandel. It revolves around a group of teenagers who called themselves the Midnight Society that meet weekly at a secret location in the woods, where one member tells a scary story to the rest of the group, some of which are based on public domain fairy tales, short stories or urban legends. Subjects range from abandoned houses and vampires to scary clowns, witches and aliens.

The series debuted in 1990 on the Canadian children's channel YTV and was picked up by Nickelodeon USA in 1991, though it didn’t debut until SNICK’s launch on Saturday, Aug. 15, 1992. The show ran until April 1996, and a revival series with new writers, directors, writers and cast members was produced by Nickelodeon from 1999 to 2000. In all, the series ran for 91 episodes over seven seasons. Tia and Tamera Mowry (Sister, Sister), Will Friedle (Boy Meets World), Neve Campbell, Hayden Christensen, Jay Baruchel, Tatyana Ali, Melissa Joan Hart (Clarissa Explains It All, Sabrina the Teenage Witch), Jewel Staite (Space Cases), Emily VanCamp, and two-time Academy Award nominee Ryan Gosling are just a few of the household names who have lent their acting skills to the anthology.

Each episode is introduced with the storyteller saying “Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society,” who then would announce the title of that segment. MacHale said the line was a tribute to the series The Twilight Zone, in which creator Rod Serling would introduce the episode by saying, “submitted for your approval.”

In Nickelodeon's Are You Afraid of the Dark? revival miniseries, through three hour-long episodes, the new Midnight Society will tell a terrifying tale about the Carnival of Doom, only to have the events of the story come to life. The revival will premiere this October on Nick.

The new members of the Midnight Society are: Gavin, played by Sam Ashe Arnold (Best.Worst.Weekend.Ever.); Akiko, played by Miya Cech (Rim of the World, Always Be My Maybe); Louise, played by Tamara Smart (Artemis Fowl, The Worst Witch); Graham, played by Jeremy Taylor (It, Goosebumps 2:Haunted Halloween); and Rachel, played by Lyliana Wray (Top Gun: Maverick, Black-ish). The Carnival of Doom’s ringmaster, Mr. Tophat, is played by Rafael Casal (Blindspotting).

The Are You Afraid of the Dark? limited series is produced by ACE Entertainment (To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, The Perfect Date) with ACE founder Matt Kaplan and Spencer Berman serving as executive producers. The series is written by BenDavid Grabinski (Skiptrace) and directed by Dean Israelite (Power Rangers movie, Project Almanac), both of whom will also executive produce.

Paramount Players is also currently working on a feature film adaptation of Are You Afraid of the Dark?.

Toms Partners with Hasbro to License Shoes featuring Power Rangers, My Little Pony, Transformers and More

Footwear brand Toms has announced a licensing deal with Hasbro, Inc.!


Through a three-year strategic agreement, the shoe company will create a series of products — including shoes, apparel and eyewear — inspired by the toy maker’s portfolio of hit children’s and entertainment brands, including Power Rangers, Transformers, Candy Land, Monopoly, Tonka, My Little Pony and more.

“Toms is excited to announce our partnership with Hasbro, a classic brand that has touched many generations,” said Liza Doppelt, vice president, global brand marketing at Toms. “This long-term collaboration will launch in Fall 2020 and bring together the iconic Toms styles that give back with the nostalgia of childhood Hasbro favourites.

“The collection of fun footwear for men, women and children will be available at select global retailers.”

“We’re thrilled to work with Toms to provide fans of all ages a new way to engage with the Hasbro brands they love,” added Casey Collins, Hasbro’s GM and senior vice president, entertainment and licensing. “We know that our fans will appreciate the quality and care that Toms takes in the development of each of their designs, and we can’t wait to see people everywhere wearing the Hasbro x Toms collaboration!”

The first wave of Hasbro x Toms products will be available for fall 2020, with additional waves releasing over the next three years. The collaboration will include footwear in women’s, men’s and kids’ sizing. Styles will sell on Toms.com and through select retail channels.

Toms is well known for its charitable and philanthropic efforts, positively impacting more than 94 million lives through the giving of shoes, water and impact grants since the company's inception. The firm is excited to bring Hasbro into the one-for-one fold and continue its mission statement. With every purchase of the Hasbro x Toms collection, Toms will give a new pair of shoes to a child in need.

Earlier this year, the shoemaker expanded its existing relationship with Sesame Street to launch the new Sesame Street x TOMS collection (also part of the “One for One” program).

Last week, Hasbro entered an agreement to acquire Entertainment One for US$4 billion. Hasbro will take ownership of the company’s entire film and TV production slate, including hit kids IPs Peppa Pig and PJ Masks. It’s not yet clear if these properties will be part of the TOMS collaboration moving forward.

Hasbro Celebrates National Power Rangers Day

Go Go Power Rangers! Wednesday, August 28, 2019 marked National Power Rangers Day, a day that officially recognizes the original “teenagers with attitude” and celebrates all things Power Rangers!


The celebration of National Power Rangers Day continues and to kick off this year’s celebration, Hasbro is calling all of Ranger Nation to share their love and appreciation for all things Power Rangers with the first-ever official #HasbroToyPic campaign for the brand! The campaign will run through Friday, September 30, 2019.

Leading the charge with official ambassadors such as @SgtBananas and Professional toy photographer Mitchel Wu of Mitchel Wu Toy Photography, fans are encouraged to use #HasbroToyPic and #PowerRangers across social media platforms to share photographs of their Power Rangers figures. Photographs can range from snapshots of the Power Rangers Lightning Collection to imaginative scenes featuring the Power Rangers. Throughout the campaign, some photos using the #HasbroToyPic hashtag may be featured on the Hasbro Pulse Instagram.

Dreamia TV Acquires Rights to 'Club 57'; To Air in Portugal and Africa on Biggs

Viacom International Studios Americas (VIS) has announced that Portugal's Dreamia TV network has acquired the rights to the the hit musical series Club 57, which Dreamia will broadcast in Portugal and across Africa via its children's cable network, Biggs. A co-production between VIS and Italian production company Rainbow Group, Club 57 originally premiered in Latin America and Brazil on Nickelodeon and on RAI in Italy. The series also aired on Viacom-owned Telefe in Argentina. The series became an instant hit on all four channels.

Buenos Aires, August 29, 2019 - Viacom International Studios Americas (VIS) agreed with Dreamia the distribution of Club 57 to be broadcasted in Portugal and on the African continent through the Biggs youth brand. Club 57 is a co-production between VIS and Rainbow Group originally premiered in Latin America on the Nickelodeon screen and with RAI in Italy.

The musical series features an international cast led by Venezuelan actress Evaluna Montaner (Eva), Italian actor Riccardo Frasari (JJ), Colombian Sebastián Silva (Rubén), Mexican Martin Barba (Aurek), Cuban American Isabella Castillo (Amelia), Venezuelan Ángela Rincón (Sofía), Chilean Carolina Mestrovic (Vero) and Colombian Andrés Mercado (Manuel), among others.

Club 57 follows the adventures of Eva and her brother Rubén, who accidentally transport themselves to 1957. Both of them try everything to return home but Eva falls in love with JJ and decides to remain in the past, triggering a butterfly effect that changes her life for worse. With a mix of music, dance and time travel adventures, Eva must now figure out how to return to the present without giving up her first love.

The story is created by acclaimed screenwriter Catharina Ledoboer, who has written multiple hits including Every Witch Way (4 seasons), WITS Academy and Talia in the Kitchen for Nickelodeon USA; and 3 successful seasons of Grachi, Nickelodeon's Latin American fantasy series.

It doesn’t take a Thinking Chair to see that Joshua Dela Cruz has got it goin’ on.

The new host of the upcoming Blue’s Clues reboot titled Blue’s Clues & You!, premiering this fall, has a sexy side that social-media users have discovered and shared with the world.

Images and videos of the photogenic actor and singer have flooded Twitter over recent days, showing him both in candid and modeling shots — including a certain shirtless black-and-white snap that’s making the rounds, where the actor flexes and looks over his shoulder while wearing glasses.

“Joshua dela cruz if you see this and want to hang out with me on wednesday when i am free pls respond and come over when i am free on wednesday so we can hang out on wednesday when i am free,” one Twitter user wrote.

“I feel like there was a time where we all dreamed to end up with a guy like Joshua Dela Cruz,” tweeted another, ending with a string of random capital letters.

The replies ranged from wholehearted approval (some simple and sweet, some NSFW) to warnings, where Twitter users chimed in to joke to their fellow posters not to “end his career before it starts” with their outward affection.

“Me auditioning for Blue’s long lost sister on Blue’s Clues so I can hang out with Joshua Dela Cruz,” one user tweeted, sharing a funny video of herself prancing around in a home-goods store, modeling a blue blanket.

Thinking beyond Dela Cruz’s physical appearance, another wrote, “Everyone is going on about how hot Joshua Dela Cruz is but all I’m thinking about is how he seems like an approachable and friendly chill dude that you can just hang out with.”

Fans even dug up videos of the new Nick Jr. host — who’s also a Broadway performer —belting out songs like “We Kiss in a Shadow” from The King and I and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”


Dela Cruz spoke to BuzzFeed News about his newfound admiration, revealing his phone had been “blowing up” as of late — but he didn’t really mind, considering it was for “positive” reasons.

“It’s definitely flattering. It is a little weird only because you don’t think in your life you’ll ever get this kind of exposure,” he added. “I never, ever thought that I would trend on Twitter in any capacity.”

The caption accompanied a collage post of the many trending photos and headlines about the actor.


Nickelodeon released the first promo for the upcoming reboot of the beloved children’s show this past May — and in addition to a new host, it boasts all-new animations in the form of its titular dog, now CGI-animated.

Just like original host Steve Burns, Dela Cruz has a Thinking Chair, a Handy Dandy Notebook and friends like Tickety Tock, Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper, Mailbox and Magenta. But this time around, the host has a fresh blue-striped shirt, a new musical style and a Handy Dandy Guitar.

The actor played the understudy of Aladdin and a member of the ensemble in Broadway’s stage musical of the Disney animated movie. And when it came to casting him, Burns — who hosted the original Blue’s Clues from 1996 to 2003 — played a significant role.

“I had the great honor of being a part of the search for the new host, and I give Josh two thumbs up!” said Burns, 45, in an earlier statement. “He can definitely fill my shoes and the rugby shirt.”

The New Host Of “Blue’s Clues” Knows You Think He’s A Hottie And He’s Very Flattered

People on Twitter have never been thirstier for a children’s TV host.

When the new host of the upcoming Blue’s Clues revival was announced, people were super excited to see some Filipino representation.

And now, they’re also super excited because it turns out that Joshua Dela Cruz, who will be the face of Blue’s Clues & You, is a grade-A hottie.

People on Twitter discovered Dela Cruz’s Instagram pictures, and the thirsting began.


The replies honestly got really NSFW.


Dela Cruz told BuzzFeed News he was filming all day and his phone kept “blowing up,” but he only caught bits and pieces of the thirstfest.

“From the little bits I’ve gathered, it’s positive,” he said.

“It’s definitely flattering. It is a little weird only because you don’t think in your life you’ll ever get this kind of exposure.”

He was especially amused by the rhyming in this tweet:


“They’re very clever,” Dela Cruz said.

He’s also just really excited for the new show to launch in November.

“I’m super pumped,” he said. “My relationship with Blue’s Clues is a little bit embarrassing because I was definitely not the target demographic when they released the show in the ’90s,” he said.

Dela Cruz said he used to watch the show with his younger sister during sleepovers at his aunt’s house, who had cable TV.

“What’s crazier about this time around is when the show first came out there wasn’t any social media, and now we have a second audience because the kids who watched the show growing up have kids now,” he said.

But Dela Cruz said he’s happy that people will be watching and learning, no matter what drew them in.


The last thing he expected was to be trending on social media, but here we are.

“I never, ever thought that I would trend on Twitter in any capacity,” he said.

“So thank you to everyone who’s keeping this story alive, and in my old age I’ll look back at the fond day that I was trending as a thirst trap on Twitter.”
