Could Nickelodeon Be Planning To Revive 'Jimmy Neutron'?

3..2..1.. Gotta Blast!

Hot on the heels of Nickelodeon and Paramount Players announcing last week that they are bringing Nickelodeon's beloved '90s animated series Rugrats back with an all-new animated TV series and live-action/CG-animated movie, another much loved Nickelodeon franchise could be blasting back onto our TV screens soon: Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius!

In a Tweet, voice actor Debi Derryberry, the voice of Jimmy Neutron in both Nickelodeon Movies' Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius theatrical film and CG-animated spin-off television series, has revealed that some "really exciting news" about Jimmy Neutron will be announced "very soon!"

Although it's not actually unconfirmed that Jimmy Neutron is coming back for a new TV series or movie, Debi's Tweet was a reply to a fan asking Nickelodeon to revive Jimmy Neutron for a brand-new season.

Jimmy Neutron follows James "Jimmy" Isaac Neutron, Retroville's resident Boy Genius. Jimmy creates amazing inventions designed to make his life easier and more interesting--and when they work the way they're supposed to, they do just that! Which is rare. But for Jimmy, his robot dog Goddard and his pals Carl Wheezer (Rob Paulsen, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and Sheen Estevez (Jeffrey Garcia), every short circuit is a new adventure!

Created by John A. Davis and based on several Jimmy Neutron and Johnny Quasar shorts, Nickelodeon Movies, O Entertainment, DNA Productions and Paramount Pictures' Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius made its debut in theaters on December 21, 2001. Following its success, a spin-off series The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius premiered on July 20, 2002 and ran for 63 episodes over three seasons. The success of the film and TV series spawned another spin-off, Planet Sheen, as well as three crossovers with The Fairly OddParents under the name The Jimmy-Timmy Power Hour and a ride as Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.

Nickelodeon’s vault holds some of the most iconic names in children’s entertainment, and the network is moving deliberately to resurrect select properties that resonate with today’s audiences, both on Nick’s networks and on third-party platforms. Last year’s Hey Arnold! special sent the Hillwood crew back to television, and an updated Blue’s Clues series is in the works, along with special events featuring fan favorites Rocko’s Modern Life and Invader Zim. Nickelodeon also recently revived its iconic '80s game show Double Dare for a whole new generation, and a Clarissa Explains It All reboot is also said to be in the works.
