'Jimmy Neutron' Co-Creator Hints That A Revival May Be In The Works

It's nearly been twenty years since Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius hit theaters and the better part of 15 since The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, the animated series based on the movie on Nickelodeon aired its final episode. As you know by now, it's never too long for Hollywood to revive a property for a reboot and in the ever-expanding world of streaming video, revivals are now more possible than ever.

When a fan of the hit Nickelodeon series and movie asked Jimmy Neutron writer, director and co-creator Keith Alcorn on Twitter if there were any plans to either revive or reboot Jimmy Neutron with a new season or movie, Alcorn replied saying "I'm going to say YES! ;)"!

The news follows director Alcorn revealing that had pitched a couple of ideas for a Jimmy Neutron reboot to the executives (who happen to have had a long history with the Jimmy Neutron franchise) at Nickelodeon.

Now, this doesn't confirm that Nickelodeon are working on a Jimmy Neutron revival, however, it seems like there are some sort of plans in motion to bring the property back.

In an interview earlier this year, Rob Paulsen, who voiced Carl Wheezer in the movie and series, revealed that he thought that a Jimmy Neutron revival was a great idea, saying: "I don't think it would be a bad thing at all to reboot Jimmy Neutron. I think that's one of those shows that a lot of people would love to see again. It was very good. Really smart. That wouldn't surprise me."

However, Paulsen added that he had "not heard anybody mentioning anything about it,", adding "but that certainly is one that I think could stand a reboot, and I think would do okay. I think that it's not too dated. I think that it would be fine. The characters I think would work fine in an updated version."

Another fan of Jimmy Neutron recently Tweeted some incredible 2D Jimmy Neutron fan-art on Twitter, which has garnered an amazing response for other fans, boasting 20,000 Retweets and over 117,000 likes. The fan-art has also received Nickelodeon's seal of approval, with the official Nickelodeon, NickRewind and Nickelodeon Animation Twitter accounts praising the art.

Nickelodeon reviving Jimmy Neutron wouldn't be surprising, as the network has been reviving quite a few of its iconic properties over the past few years. Rugrats for example, is being rebooted for not only a Nickelodeon TV show, but maybe a CGI/live-action movie as well. Nickelodeon has also brought back Legends of the Hidden Temple, Hey Arnold!, Rocko's Modern Life and Invader Zim for new TV movies, Are You Afraid of the Dark? for a miniseries - which was recently renewed for a second - and Double Dare and All That for new series. Nickelodeon is also reimagining Avatar: The Last Airbender as a live-action series for Netflix, and has also formed a new, multi-year output deal with the streamer to produce original animated feature films and television series - based both on the Nickelodeon library of characters as well as all-new IP - for kids and families around the world.

Jimmy Neutron follows James "Jimmy" Isaac Neutron, Retroville's resident Boy Genius. Jimmy (Debi Derryberry, AAAHH!!! Real Monsters, Oh Yeah! Cartoons, CatDog, Rocket Power, ChalkZone, and Random! Cartoons) creates amazing inventions designed to make his life easier and more interesting--and when they work the way they're supposed to, they do just that! Which is rare. But for Jimmy, his robot dog Goddard and his pals Carl Wheezer (Paulsen, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and Sheen Estevez (Jeffrey Garcia, Back at the Barnyard, Happy Feet Two), every short circuit is a new adventure!

Created by John A. Davis and based on several Jimmy Neutron and Johnny Quasar shorts, Nickelodeon Movies, O Entertainment, DNA Productions and Paramount Pictures' Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius made its debut in theaters on December 21, 2001. Following its success, a spin-off series The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius premiered on July 20, 2002 and ran for 63 episodes over three seasons. The success of the film and TV series spawned another spin-off, Planet Sheen, as well as three crossovers with The Fairly OddParents under the name The Jimmy-Timmy Power Hour and a ride as Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.
