Hasbro CEO Talks Power Rangers Performance So Far During Q1 2019 Earnings Conference Call

Hasbro's 2019 is off to a great start, as the toy and gaming company rebounds from the debris left by the closure of Toys "R" Us. That's great news for Power Rangers fans, as the company is now the overseer of the franchise, launching the new era with Power Rangers Beast Morphers, the 26th season of the long-running TV series. Now that the master toy license is officially in Hasbro's hands, Beast Morphers toys are starting to hit stores while their collector's line the Lightning Collection is set to hit store shelves very soon. Hasbro spoke about all their brands during their recent Quarter 1 2019 earnings call, and that included Power Rangers.


Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner was asked about how the initial shipments of Power Rangers products are performing, and despite the small sample size, the results are quite promising (via Seeking Alpha).

"Sure. Well, the launch of POWER RANGERS is starting in North America," Goldner said. "The line launch there. We had some products ship in Q1, but limited. It will roll out in the subsequent quarters, both in North America and around the world. I'm very pleased with the ratings of the new show. It's a ratings leader in its time slot. It's offering a very strong lead out. And Nickelodeon's been a very good partner and helping us to market the new series. The team has done a great job in producing this transition from Saban to our own studio has been seamless, and I give the team a lot of credit for producing such a high quality show that's really beloved by kids and improved in a number of ways from the last production. So we're, obviously, very excited about POWER RANGERS, not only for this year, 9 months, but for 2020 as we'll have a full year impact. So very good there."

Hasbro seems pleased with the show and the initial toys, and now the Lightning Collection is already making an impact in local stores. With the Gold Ranger making his debut in the show as well, the momentum seems to be moving in the right direction for the brand, and that's good news for everyone.

Nickelodeon has launched Super Brawl Universe, an all-new mobile game based on the popular online title — the ultimate arcade action game where players battle iconic characters from the most popular Nicktoons, globally! In Super Brawl Universe, users can recruit new and nostalgic characters from Nickelodeon’s catalog of animated shows to assemble the ultimate team and enter the Super Brawl tournament. Players can battle it out at the Krusty Krab, the Loud House, the Avatar Air Temple, and many other incredible locations with more than 20 fan-favorite characters, including SpongeBob, Invader Zim, Kid Danger, Danny Phantom and more, with new characters and themed updates to come.

Spin Master Launches 'PAW Patrol Little Heroes PAW Awards 2019'

Spin Master Entertainment’s PAW Patrol is once again championing little heroes across the UK with the return of its PAW Patrol Little Heroes PAW Awards this year!


The Awards programme, now in its second year, is set to be "bigger and better than before" with individual sponsors for the Awards, from high profile organisations that support the pups’ values and characteristics, as well as further support through the popular Nick Jr. channels - Nick Jr., Nick Jr. +1 and Nick Jr. Too.

Nickelodeon’s new original TV movie, Bixler High Private Eye, starring Jace Norman (Henry Danger) and multihyphenate actress, singer and author Ariel Martin, a.k.a. “Baby Ariel,” is set to premiere on Nickelodeon Asia on Wednesday 1st May 2019 at 4:00pm on Nickelodeon Indonesia (WIB), 5:00pm on Nickelodeon Malaysia (MY), 6:00pm on Nickelodeon Philippines (PH) and Nickelodeon Singapore (SG)! The live-action comedy follows Xander DeWitt (Norman), an inquisitive teenager who has a knack for solving mysteries, as he tackles his biggest case yet when his father suddenly disappears.

In Bixler High Private Eye, Xander’s sleuthing skills get put to the test when his dad, Russell, leaves for work one day and vanishes without a trace. Frustrated by his attempts to find his dad, Xander’s mom sends him to go live with his grandfather (Ed Begley Jr.), a retired private investigator. It’s in his dad’s hometown that Xander finds a surprising lead in the case and builds an unexpected partnership with Kenzie Messina (Ariel Martin), an investigative reporter for the school newspaper.


Bixler High Private Eye marks Norman’s fifth starring role in a Nickelodeon TV movie, and his first as an executive producer. He currently stars in Nickelodeon’s Henry Danger, the number-one live-action show on TV with Kids 2-11 and Kids 6-11, and the network’s longest-running live-action sitcom. Norman is also the co-founder of Creator Edge Media, an influencer marketing agency.

Ariel Martin, a.k.a. “Baby Ariel,” is an award-winning actress, singer, entrepreneur and author who has catapulted into mainstream media. She has captured an audience of over 40 million across all her social media platforms, and over 282 million views on her YouTube videos alone. Most recently, Martin released her debut book, “Dreaming Out Loud,” as well as her fourth single, “8 Letter,” in October 2018.

Bixler High Private Eye made its world debut on Nickelodeon in the U.S. on Monday, January 21, at 7 p.m. (ET/PT). Following its U.S. launch, the film will roll out on Nickelodeon’s international channels and branded blocks throughout 2019.

Bixler High Private Eye is executive produced by Jace Norman, Scott Norman, Rene Rigal (Immortals, 21 & Over) and Tobin Armbrust (Dark Places, Snitch), and is produced by Greg Sills (Grease Live!, Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards). Nickelodeon Poland (Polska) will premiere Noobees, Nickelodeon Latin America's (Latinoamérica) hit scripted series which takes viewers inside the high-stakes world of eSports, on Monday 6th May 2019 (6 Maja)! Noobees follows of a group of teenage gamers who have the opportunity to live out their biggest dream, participating in the eSports Championship, creating “Noobees”, an eSports team that will compete to win the Professional Video Games League. When Erick is presented with the unique opportunity of participating in the E-Sports Championship, his greatest dream, Silvia does everything possible to help him achieve it, even if it means becoming a professional gamer herself. Silvia and Erick, along with their friends, create N00Bees - an E-sports team that will compete for the title at the Professional Video Games League. But this task will not be easy. Besides dealing with all the usual problems associated with growing up, Silvia will have to learn how to play video games while competing against David, the best player in the region and with whom she'll fall in love with. What nobody knows is that something will happen to Silvia that will make her gain some incredible powers allowing her to control the way she plays videogames, and this will be epic! All this will unleash all kinds of adventures and moments that fans CANNOT miss!


The show features new and established pan-regional actors, including Mexican natives Michelle Olvera (La Doña, Huérfanas, O Señor De Los Cielos) and newcomer Andres de la Mora; Colombians Maria Jose Vargas (Majo Vargas YouTuber e Celebridade no Instagram, Puro Flow, Francisco El Matemático) and Ilenia Antonini (Chica Vampiro); and Argentinean Lion Bagnis (La Doña, Baila). Additional cast members are Colombian actress and model Karen Martinez (Cartel De Los Sapos, Final Tiempo), Brandon Figueredo, who returns to Nickelodeon screens following his role in Nickelodeon Latinoamérica's hit series Yo Soy Franky, and Brazilian actress Clara Tiezzi (Malhação, Rebelde), among others.

Created by Enrique Pérez (Flipy) from Mediapro Group’s production company 100Balas, and produced by Viacom International Studios (VIS) and 100 Balas, N00bees is the Nickelodeon's first-ever gaming series, and brings fans closer to the very real world of eSports, a mass phenomenon among young people. The series, directed by William Barragán, reproduces the atmosphere of big games, the finals, and competition among the teams, including spectacular images from the Liga de Videojuegos Profesional (Professional Videogames League (LVP)), the biggest e-sports league in Spain and the host of major online and offline tournaments for such hit games as “League of Legends” and “Call of Duty.”


The show began filming in Televideo, MEDIAPRO’s production studio in Bogotá, Colombia in May 2018, and made its world debut on Nickelodeon Latinoamérica in September 2018. The series, featuring 60 1-hour episodes, will also run on the free-to-air (FTA) network RCN in Colombia. The Spanish language series has also being adapted to Portuguese for Nick viewers in Brazil (Brasil), where it premiered on Monday 4th February 2019 at 19h. Nickelodeon recently greenlit Noobees for a second season.

MEDIAPRO Colombia’s experience includes productions such as Chica Vampiro (Vampire Girl) which currently stands as the Nickelodeon favorite among viewers aged 4 to 12, bringing in an average of over 648,000 viewers.


To support the series, Nickelodeon Latinoamérica launched several short-form digital series to tie into the show, including Mystery Man, Rutizados and Game Mode, which fans could watch online at mundonick.com, the Nick Play app and on Nickelodeon Latinoamérica's official YouTube channel. Nickelodeon also partnered with Mixer for a series of weekly interactive live streams, and launched the NOOBINFLUENCER contest. To support the Brazilian debut of Noobees, fans can visit a immersive Noobees-themed interactive truck that will take them into the heart of the show and "Rocket League", the game featured in the series.

South Africa - In collaboration with Toys R Us, Nickelodeon Africa (DStv channel 305) has officially announced the fourth instalment of their highly anticipated Toy Sprint, giving another 12 lucky kids the opportunity of a lifetime!

The Nickelodeon Toy Sprint will be taking place across the country, at designated Toys R Us stores in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, and is open to all kids aged between six and 12 (sorry mom, this one’s for the kiddies).

Nickelodeon Has "Over Half a Dozen" 'SpongeBob SquarePants' Spin-Offs in Development

Kelly Day, President of Viacom Digital Studios, today revealed that Viacom's 2019 NewFront, that Nickelodeon has over half a dozen spin-offs in the works inspired by the network's hit animated series SpongeBob SquarePants!


Announced at Nickelodeon Upfront 2019 in February, Nickelodeon is planning to expand the SpongeBob SquarePants universe with spinoffs focused on the core characters into formats such as new series, specials and feature-length movies. The spin-offs will form part of Nickelodeon's "Best Year Ever" celebrations to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the beloved Nicktoon, which kicks off with the brand-new "SpongeBob’s Big Birthday Blowout" live-action/animated special on Friday, July 12 at 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT), and culminates with the May 22, 2020 release of the new SpongeBob theatrical, It’s A Wonderful Sponge. The year-long celebration also encompasses new consumer products, such as Alpha Group's recently released Masterpiece Memes figures, which bring to life favorite moments from the series that have become popular viral memes.

"[SpongeBob SquarePants is] our Marvel Universe,” Brian Robbins, President of Nickelodeon, said in February. “You have this amazing show that’s run for almost twenty years.”

Robbins also pledged that Nickelodeon will always make SpongeBob, and revealed that he sees ample room to explore other characters. Among the options on the table are to “tell an original story about SpongeBob and Patrick, or maybe tell a Sandy Cheeks stand-alone story, or can Plankton have his own?” Robbins mused. “I think the fans are clamoring for it.”

Also revealed at Viacom's 2019 NewFront conference today was SpongeBob Smarty Pants Game Show, a brand-new digital game show from Nickelodeon where two SpongeBob superfans compete to win The Golden Pineapple by answering trivia questions, completing messy stunts and competing in SpongeBob-themed games! There will be special live episodes of the show broadcast across Nickelodeon's social accounts. SpongeBob Smarty Pants Game Show is slated to debut later this year.

Viacom Digital Studios shared its plans to produce new and returning original series around major tentpole events, linear franchises and the most popular digital shows from Awesomeness, BET, Comedy Central, MTV and Nickelodeon. Viacom is also teaming up with big-name stars and fan-favorite digital talent to deliver entirely new programming across Facebook, Snap, Twitter and YouTube for Viacom’s more than 880 million fans — the largest social footprint among entertainment companies.

The new content slate includes: “How to Survive: A Break-Up,” Eva Gutowski stars in this AwesomenessTV scripted romantic comedy series about the heartbreaking, and sometimes hilarious, steps to getting over a messy break-up and maybe finding new love along the way; “Black Coffee,” BET’s daily morning talk show starring Marc Lamont Hill that catches up with Black Twitter’s liveliest conversations and features news-making interviews with top celebrities, athletes, and social media stars; untitled late-night show from David Spade, Comedy Central’s new late-night show hosted by David Spade will launch show channels and publish content across YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter; “MTV No Filter: Tana Turns 21,” follows Tana Mongeau and her crazy crew for a behind-the-scenes look as they navigate vlog life, studio time, partying and the occasional controversy; “SpongeBob Smarty Pants Game Show,” a digital game show from Nickelodeon where two SpongeBob superfans compete to win The Golden Pineapple by answering trivia questions, completing messy stunts and competing in SpongeBob-themed games.

Viacom also announced that its flagship networks will launch on Pluto TV, the leading free streaming television service in the U.S. with more than 15 million monthly active users. BET, Comedy Central, MTV and Nickelodeon will debut channels on May 1, with content from Viacom’s extensive library of iconic IP through three categories of branded channels: Co-Branded Flagship Channels that are curated versions of Viacom’s leading networks; Signature Channels with the most celebrated and diversified programming from each brand; and Pop-Up Channels that deliver binge-worthy series in marathon-style airings, starting with MTV’s “The Hills” — just in time for the highly anticipated revival series “The Hills: New Beginnings” premiering Monday, June 24.

  • Gus Johnson Overall Talent Deal (YouTube; Summer 2019): Gus Johnson has signed an overall deal with Viacom Digital Studios to create monthly original videos for Comedy Central, in addition to more episodes of his “Low Budget” series. He will also star in a number of Comedy Central’s existing social series, including “That’s an App” and “As Seen on CC.”
  • Second Chances with Jason Nash (YouTube; Summer 2019): Forty-something comedian and digital star, Jason Nash, takes a shot at all the life experiences he missed out on in his youth.

  • 3 Days With... (YouTube; Coming 2019): Told through our unique MTV lens, this new docu-series will provide unfiltered access to both up-and-coming and established artists.
  • Drag My Dad (Facebook Watch; Summer 2019): Hosted by Bob the Drag Queen, this makeover show with a heart showcases dads who choose to get closer to their children by, believe it or not, turning themselves into fabulous divas.
  • MTV No Filter: Tana Turns 21 (YouTube; Summer 2019): The first installment of MTV’s new “No Filter” reality series will follow social media wild child Tana Mongeau and her crazy crew as they navigate vlog life, studio time, partying and finally becoming adults.
  • Next Big Dance Move (YouTube; July 2019): Three contestants will perform what they think is the next big dance move in front of an esteemed panel of judges.
  • Wild ‘N Out (Twitch; Summer 2019): Since “Wild ’N Out” fans love video games, we’re launching a dedicated Twitch channel for show personalities to play alongside fans.

VidCon Celebrates its 10th Anniversary

VidCon made a series of announcements ahead of the 10th anniversary of VidCon US, taking place July 10-13 in Anaheim, CA:

  • Fan-Favorite Featured Creators: Some of the world’s top digital talent are confirmed to participate at VidCon this summer as Featured Creators, including Annie LeBlanc, Simmi Singh, Rhett and Link, Tessa Violet, The Bramfam, Paula Galindo, Joana Ceddia, the Dobre Brothers, and Sean Evans.
  • Industry Track Partnership with the IAB: Announced as part of the Industry Track, The Direct Brand Summit will take place on Friday, July 12th. The summit will feature a keynote from IAB’s CEO Randall Rothenberg and curated programming specific to building direct brands in the online video space, with a special focus on core themes like brand safety, compliance, working with digital talent and more.
  • Community Track Partnership with The Dodo: VidCon is partnering with The Dodo to bring the first ever co-branded programming section, “The Dodo Pet Zone,” to the Community Track this July. The Dodo will program sessions featuring the Internet’s most beloved pets, including Manny the Frenchie, Nala Cat, Walter Geoffrey the Frenchie, Venus the Two Face Cat and Norbert the Dog among others. Nala Cat also makes a special guest appearance at the NewFront.

Additionally, Viacom today announced that they are creating Nickelodeon’s first ever series in partnership with a brand, for Real Lunchables airing in June! The show will feature familiar Nick talent, was written by Nickelodeon writers and will live across Nick’s social – providing a real, entertainment-led Nickelodeon series, made from the ground-up for Kraft.
