Nickelodeon's new animated preschool series, Butterbean’s Café

Preschoolers will be whisked away on magical culinary adventures in Nickelodeon’s brand-new CG-animated series, Butterbean’s Café, premiering Monday 4th February 2019 at 07:35 Uhr on Nickelodeon Germany (Deutschland) and at 07:45 Uhr on Nickelodeon Austria (Österreich) and Nickelodeon Switzerland (Schweiz)! Following launch, new episodes of Butterbean’s Café will air regularly weekdays at 07:35 Uhr on Nick Deutschland and at 07:45 Uhr on Nick Österreich and Nick Schweiz.

Butterbean’s Café will also premiere on Nick Jr. Deutschland on Monday 4th February 2019 at 03:00 Uhr, and will regularly throughout the week.

Update (31/1) - Nickelodeon Germany (Deutschland) has made a late schedule change which will see the channel remove its preschool programming block from its schedule from Monday 4th February 2019. The move means that Butterbean’s Café will not premiere on the main Nickelodeon channel in Germany on that date as originally planned. However, Butterbean’s Café will still premiere on Nick Jr. Deutschland on Monday 4th February 2019 at 03:00 Uhr, and will regularly throughout the week. The schedule change does not effect Nickelodeon Austria (Österreich) and Nickelodeon Switzerland (Schweiz).

Created by Robert Scull and Jonny Belt (Bubble Guppies), Butterbean’s Café, the series (40 episodes) centers on a fairy named Butterbean and her adventures running her neighborhood café and bakery, and showcases creative cooking and features a curriculum with social-emotional lessons that highlight kindness and gratitude, and leadership skills.

In the series, Butterbean, her fairy friends--Dazzle, Poppy and Jasper --and her little sister Cricket take pride in serving up healthy snacks and sweet treats to the residents in their community of Puddlebrook. Butterbean’s special magic beans, the fairies’ enchanted kitchen tools and the team’s can-do spirit all combine to make their cafe the most awesome eatery in town.



In Butterbean’s Café’s series premiere, “The Grand Opening!,” Butterbean and her friends work together to make the opening of the café a success, while competing café owner Ms. Marmalady (voiced by Alysia Reiner of Orange Is the New Black) attempts to throw them off track.

Nickelodeon Germany to Remove Nick Jr. Programming Block in February 2019

Nickelodeon Germany (Deutschland) is set to revamp its morning schedules in February 2019.


Currently, Nick Deutschland, a free-to-air (FTA) channel in Germany, airs a selection of preschool series, such as Team Umizoomi, Dot., Blaze and the Monster Machines, Rusty Rivets, Shimmer and Shine, Top Wing, Nella the Princess Knight and Sunny Day every morning, however, from Monday 4th February 2019, these will be replaced with marathons of shows aimed at older children. Marathons include back-to-back episodes of Spongebob Schwammkopf, Fairly OddParents (Cosmo&Wanda: Wenn Elfen helfen), The Loud House (Willkommen bei den Louds), School of Rock, Pokémon, Die Thundermans, Make It Pop, and The Penguins of Madagascar (Die Pinguine aus Madagascar).

Viewers of Nickelodeon's preschool programming block will still be able to find all their favourite Nick Jr. shows, and more, such as PAW Patrol, on Nick Jr., Nickelodeon's dedicated channel for preschoolers. Programming will also be available to watch online at nickjr.de and via the channel's Video-On-Demand partners.

Nick has decided to shakeup the morning schedules in an effort to diversify the mornings.

The move will effect the premiere of Butterbean’s Café. Nickelodeon's brand-new CG-animated series, which was set to debut in the preschool block on Monday 4th February 2019. Butterbean’s Café will now launch as a Nick Jr. channel exclusive on Sunday 3rd February 2019 airing Sundays to Thursdays at 03:00 Uhr, with encores everyday, so viewers can catch the latest episodes.

The move, however, will not effect Nickelodeon Switzerland (Schweiz) and Nick Austria (Österreich), who will continue to air the Nick Jr. programming block everyday.

The news follows Nickelodeon's decision to close down Nicknight, the channel's evening programming block, and replace it with MTV+1, a timeshift version of the main MTV channel in November 2018. Like the Nick Jr. block, Nicknight still airs on Nickelodeon in Switzerland and Austria, airing a range of retro Nickelodeon shows, such as Rugrats, Bucket & Skinner, Rocket Power, Big Time Rush, AAAHH!!! Real Monsters (Aaahh!!! Monster), Clarissa Explains It All, Drake & Josh, iCarly, How to Rock, Rocko's Modern Life (Rockos modernes Leben), Sam & Cat, Victorious, SpongeBob Schwammkopf, All Grown Up!, Zoey 101 and The Penguins of Madagascar (Die Pinguine aus Madagascar).

Nickelodeon Names Rob Bagshaw as EVP of Unscripted Content

Nickelodeon has named veteran reality TV producer Rob Bagshaw as its Executive Vice President (EVP) of Unscripted Content.


In the newly created role, Bagshaw will lead development and production of unscripted content across all formats and platforms for Nickelodeon ranging from reality competition shows to live events like Kids’ Choice Awards and Kids’ Choice Sports. The new role is effective immediately. He will be based in Burbank, Calif., and report to Nickelodeon President Brian Robbins.

“Unscripted series are continually the most popular shows in every demo, and Rob has a proven talent for creating a wide range of hits,” said Robbins in a statement. “I’m excited to have him join our team, where he can use his experience and skills to create the next wave of fun, must-watch shows for our kids and family audience.”

Bagshaw brings over 20 years of unscripted television experience to Nickelodeon having produced and launched many groundbreaking shows throughout his career. He was most recently executive producer of upcoming YouTube series If I Could Tell You Just One Thing and E!’s The Funny Dance Show. He has previously served as Senior Vice President (SVP) and head of Bunim/Murray Production’s New York office, executive producer of current programming and development for BBC Worldwide Productions, and head of international programming for UK production company Mentorn Media. He has worked on RuPaul’s Drag Race, Project Runway All Stars, Top Chef Masters and Paradise Hotel, Jim Henson’s Creature Shop Challenge, and British talk shows This Morning and The Big Breakfast, among other unscripted shows.

“I am thrilled to join Brian and the Nickelodeon family to create an exciting slate of unscripted content,” said Bagshaw in a statement. “This is the perfect time to build on the network’s extraordinary legacy and bring audiences together with a new portfolio of awesome, co-viewing entertainment.”

It is the latest executive move for the Viacom network, which has been revamping its programming team under new president Brian Robbins. In the months since taking the helm of the kids network, Robbins has tapped Disney alum Paul DeBenedittis to oversee programming strategy and Ramsey Naito and Shauna Phelan to lead animation and scripted live action, respectively. Most recently, Paula Kaplan, the EVP of Talent and Development at Viacom Digital Studios (VDS) was named Executive Vice President of Talent and Development for Viacom Digital Studios and EVP of Talent for Nickelodeon.

Nickelodeon Asia and EYEYAH! Partner for Safer Internet Day PSA Series

Nickelodeon Asia is partnering with EYEYAH!, a Singapore-based publisher of social-emotional development activity books for kids, to raise awareness about the dangers of the internet by way of a 10-part animated series. The PSA-style videos will be available on Nick’s digital and on-air platforms across Asia as part of Safer Internet Day on Tuesday 5th February 2019.


EYEYAH! provided art direction to 10 illustrators—Yeah Yeah Chloe (Australia), 3Land Boy (Bangkok, pictured), Olivier Rinckel (France), Adeline Tan (Singapore), Domic Foong (Singapore), Esther Goh (Singapore), Yellow Mushmellow (Singapore), Kristian Jones (UK), Matt C Stoke (UK) and Russell Taysom (UK)—whose video concepts highlighting potentially dangerous aspects of the internet such as addiction, online strangers and privacy were then animated by Acid House in the Philippines.

Viewers will also be encouraged to talk about online safety by using the hashtag #internetsafe on social media.

The PSAs are a part of Nickelodeon International's ongoing Together for Good initiative, which, launched in 2015, aims to empower kids to make positive changes in the world around them. The initiative serves as Nickelodeon’s international platform to inspire its audiences to get involved in their communities, provide the resources and education to get the job done and celebrate the impact they are making every day, and encompasses a partnership with child rights organization Plan International on Together We Rock, a pro-social campaign to encourage gender equity. The kids broadcaster followed that up last year by partnering with NGO KidsRights Foundation to launch #KidsCan, a global campaign to teach children about making positive changes in their communities, and by partnering with the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) to launch the #AWFRoarChallenge, which includes the Together for Good Wildlife Special educational mini-series created to inspire kids to raise awareness about endangered wildlife and empower them to become change-makers.

Nickelodeon USA to Premiere New 'Henry Danger'/'Knight Squad' Crossover Special 'Knight & Danger' on Saturday, February 2nd, 2019

Worlds collide in the brand-new Henry Danger and Knight Squad crossover special "Knight & Danger", premiering Saturday, February 2nd, 2019 at 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon USA!


When the Knight Squad's arch enemy, Ryker, us unleashed on Swellview, Kid Danger (Jace Norman) and Captain Man (Cooper Barnes) take him down to Burger Castle only to be tricked into joining forces with the villain!

The all-new 30-minute special will be a Henry Danger episode, as will guest star Owen Joyner, Daniella Perkins and Geno Segars as their respective Knight Squad characters, Arc, Ciara and Ryker, respectively.

Following the special, Nick USA will debut the second season of Knight Squad the same evening at 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT)! Knight Squad's season two opener will be titled "A Knight to Remember".

"Knight & Danger" will be the third Henry Danger crossover special, following "Danger & Thunder" (a crossover with The Thundermans in 2016) and "Danger Games" (a crossover with Game Shakers in 2017).

A tribute to creativity, Wonder Park tells the story of 10-year-old June, a wildly imaginative young girl who builds models of amusements parks with her mother. When June gets older, she starts to lose her sense of wonder and begins to shun her childhood ideas, including the idea of the park, packing away her models away. Nevertheless, her childhood catches up with her!

One day whilst exploring deep in the woods, in a magical moment, she discovers a roller coaster car buried under ivy. It transports her to a fantastical wonder park, like the ones she used to build, populated by animals who were its past employees. But the park is broken down, abandoned and in a state of decay.

June soon rediscovers the wonder of her world, and teams up with a whole host of talking animals to restore the park to its full glory, complete with spinning contraptions and inverting roller coasters, all whilst contending with a invasion of a army of cheeky chimpanzombies looking to stir up all kinds of destructive mischief.

The US version of the movie includes Matthew Broderick (Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Rules Don’t Apply, The Producers) as Dad, Jennifer Garner (Nine Lives, The Tribes of Palos Verdes) as Mom, Kenan Thompson (All That, Kenan & Kel, Good Burger, SNL) as Gus, Ken Jeong (Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, Bob’s Burgers) as Cooper, Mila Kunis (Family Guy, A Bad Moms Christmas) as Greta, John Oliver (The Daily Show, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, live-action Lion King) as Steve, Ken Hudson Campbell, who voiced Boomer the Bear, Sofia Mali as Young June, Brianna Denski (Momsters: When Moms Go Bad) as June, Oev Michael Urbas as Banky, Norbert Leo Butz (Bloodline) as Peanut, Kate McGregor-Stewart as Aunt Albertine, Kevin Chamberlin as Uncle Tony, Kath Soucie (Rugrats, Hey Arnold!) as Bus Counselor Shannon, and Noen Perez as Chatty Kid.

The UK audio track of the movie features mostly the same voice talent, with a few changes: Iconic British voice talent Tom Baker (Doctor Who, Little Britain, Monarch on the Glen) will voice Boomer the Bear and YouTube sensations Joe Sugg and Caspar Lee will voice beavers Gus and Cooper!

The PG-rated film is written by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows) from a story by Applebaum (Origin), Nemec (Knightfall), and Robert Gordon (Galaxy Quest). Appelbaum, Nemec, and Kendra Haaland serve as producers, with Karen Rosenfelt and Don Hahn executive producing. The movie is being produced by Paramount Animation, Nickelodeon Movies and Ilion Animation Studios. A director has yet to be announced for the movie.

Wonder Park is scheduled to roll into theaters on Friday, March 15, 2019. An animated television series based on the film will also debut on Nickelodeon in 2019.

Funrise, Inc. will serve as the worldwide master toy partner for the franchise.

Viacom Digital Studios Taps Heather Johns, RJ Larese for Talent Team

Viacom Digital Studios (VDS) is expanding its talent and development team with two new hires: Heather Johns, formerly with Kevin Hart/Lionsgate’s Laugh Out Loud, and RJ Larese, who hails from Popsugar.


Johns has been named Vice President (VP) of talent and development for pop culture, music and lifestyle overseeing talent discovery, talent development, booking, and talent relations for MTV and BET digital brands. Meanwhile, Larese, VP of talent and development for comedy and kids programming, is focused on scouting, talent development, booking and talent relations for Nickelodeon and Comedy Central digital brands.

Both Johns and Larese report directly to Paula Kaplan, Viacom Digital Studios Executive Vice President (EVP) of talent and development and EVP of talent for Nickelodeon. Also reporting into Kaplan are Megan Bycel, Senior Vice President (SVP) of talent at Awesomeness (which Viacom bought last summer), and Aubrey Bendix, senior director of casting and talent relations who oversees scripted projects at Awesomeness.

“The Talent and Development team at Viacom Digital Studios is fully committed to discovering and developing talent that engages audiences across next-gen platforms,” Kaplan said in a statement. “In expanding the team with Heather and RJ and incorporating the diverse talent pool Megan oversees at Awesomeness, we are uniquely positioned to further pioneer VDS efforts in programming and production for young digital-native consumers.”


RJ Larese

Viacom formed VDS, led by president Kelly Day, in late 2017, and unveiled the venture at NewFronts 2018. Viacom Digital Studios encompasses a 300-staffer team that developed over 600 hours of original content in 2018 and struck talent deals including with teen influencer JoJo Siwa.

Johns joins VDS from Laugh Out Loud Network, the Kevin Hart/Lionsgate digital comedy platform, where she was VP of content and business development after serving as executive director of development. While with LOL, she was instrumental in helping launch such as shows as Cold as Balls (which has over 120 million views) and Kevin Hart’s Lyft Legend. Prior to her tenure at Laugh Out Loud, she was a development executive at GRB Entertainment and Defy Media, and was a talent agent in UTA’s alternative TV department.

At Popsugar, Larese was head of casting and talent overseeing talent for branded and editorial digital content, as well as unscripted TV content. He also booked Popsugar Play/ground, a festival featuring over 65 celebs and influencers including Tiffany Haddish, Mindy Kaling and Kate Hudson.

Bycel, who joined Awesomeness in 2014, leads the talent-relations team that works with digital stars including Liza Koshy (Double Dare), Niki & Gabi, the Merrell Twins, Remi Ashten, and Colleen Ballinger (best known for her Miranda Sings character). She previously served in executive roles at Virtual Greats, Village Roadshow Pictures, Endeavor and Paramount Pictures.

Viacom Digital Studios' projects for Nickelodeon include The JoJo & BowBow Show Show, and the upcoming Minecraft City Champs and Drop That Seat (formally titled Musical Dares), SlimeZone VR Showdown, Bikini Bottom Mysteries, and Nick Trip with Henry Danger's Jace Norman. VDS also has a partnership with Creator Edge, a hub for internet creators founded by Jace Norman and Xander Norman. VDS are teaming up with the brothers and their group of influencer friends to create original content and a number of exciting new digital shows for Nickelodeon.

Rainbow Celebrates 15 Years of 'Winx Club'


Italian content powerhouse Rainbow is marking the 15th anniversary of Winx Club with a special series of dedicated initiatives throughout 2019!

Networks participating in the initiatives include Italian broadcaster Rai Ragazzi, which will unveil an exclusive preview of Winx Club 8, the next season of the series. Nickelodeon International joined the celebrations as well, with a marathon that aired on January 28—the official date of the show’s anniversary—on its channels and platforms in select countries, including on Nickelodeon Greece and Nickelodeon Turkey.


Further, after premiering at Lucca Comics and Games 2018, the special exhibition “15 Years of Magix” opened on January 26 at Milan’s WOW Spazio Fumetto comic museum, where it will run through May 12 before touring Europe for the rest of the year. The exhibit includes Rainbow founder Iginio Straffi’s first sketches, 3D animation, unpublished material, interactive activities and more.

Guests can also expect an auspicious welcome dance called Prosperity for All, Chinese New Year sand art workshops, and Hua Ren Heritage Chinese New Year dance performances while enjoying many of the theme park’s myriad attractions.

Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob and Patrick will be sporting Chinese New Year themes, and will be offering photo opportunities at the Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon, alongside Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT), and Dora the Explorer plus her best friend, Boots!

Don’t miss Sunway Lagoon original production, The Tale of Mount Berapi & Waves of Fun, and the Swashbuckling Pirates show, while getting a dose of nostalgia with the Bring on the 60s Show.

'The SpongeBob Musical' to Visit Las Vegas in February 2020

Are you ready kids? Nickelodeon's Tony-winning Broadway musical SpongeBob SquarePants is going on tour!


The multi-award winning SpongeBob SquarePants Musical has announced its first National Tour stop - Las Vegas! This confirms previously announced plans for a tour of the U.S. during the 2019/2020 season.

The The SpongeBob Musical will be stopping in Las Vegas, Nevada between Tuesday, Feb. 4 – Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020, as part of the Smith Center for the Performing Arts's blockbuster season for its 2019-2020 Broadway Las Vegas Series, sponsored by Southern Nevada Ford Stores and Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie Law Firm!

SpongeBob SquarePants explodes with energy and features an original pop and rock-infused score by a legendary roster of Grammy® Award-winning songwriters. Led and conceived by visionary director Tina Landau (2018 Tony Award nominee) and a Tony Award®-winning design team, the production brings the spirit of SpongeBob to life with humanity, heart, and pure theatricality.

The stakes are higher than ever as SpongeBob and all of Bikini Bottom face the total annihilation of their undersea world. Chaos erupts. Lives hang in the balance. And just when all hope seems lost, a most unexpected hero rises up and takes center stage.

Get ready to dive to all-new depths of theatrical innovation at SpongeBob SquarePants, where the power of optimism really can save the world!


SpongeBob SquarePants features a book by Kyle Jarrow, music supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Tom Kitt, choreography by Christopher Gattelli, musical direction by Julie McBride, colorful costumes and Tony-winning by David Zinn, projection design by Peter Nigrini, lighting design by Kevin Adams, sound design by Walter Trarbach, foley design by Mike Dobson, hair and wig design by Charles G. LaPointe and casting by Telsey + Company/Patrick Goodwin, CSA.

The Broadway cast for SpongeBob SquarePants included Tony Award Nominee Ethan Slater as SpongeBob SquarePants, Tony Award Nominee Gavin Lee as Squidward Q. Tentacles, Lilli Cooper and Christina Sajous as Sandy Cheeks, Brian Ray Norris as Eugene Krabs, Danny Skinner as Patrick Star and Wesley Taylor as Sheldon Plankton.

The ensemble included Brandon Espinoza, Alex Gibson, Gaelen Gilliland, Juliane Godfrey, Jordan Grubb, Kyle Matthew Hamilton, Curtis Holbrook, Jesse JP Johnson, L'ogan J'ones, Jai'len Christine Li Josey, Kelvin Moon Loh, Lauralyn Mcclelland, Vasthy Mompoint, Oneika Phillips, Catherine Ricafort, JC Schuster, Allysa Shorte, Abby C. Smith, Robert Taylor Jr., Allan K. Washington, Brynn Williams, Matt Wood and Tom Kenny as the French Narrator.

It's currently unknown whether any of the original Broadway cast will be reprising their characters for the U.S. tour of the show.

SpongeBob SquarePants is a one-of-a-kind musical event with original songs by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alexander Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady Antebellum, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T's, They Might Be Giants and T.I., and a song by David Bowie and by SpongeBob SquarePants voice actor Tom Kenny and Andy Paley. Additional lyrics by Jonathan Coulton. The critically acclaimed SpongeBob SquarePants musical was named Best Musical by the Drama Desk Awards and Outer Critics Circle and earned 12 Tony Award nominations - the most nominated musical of the 2017-2018 theatre season - including nods for Best Musical, director Tina Landau, book writer Kyle Jarrow, title player Ethan Slater (in his Broadway debut), and the all-star roster of songwriters (including Sara Bareilles, Cyndi Lauper, and John Legend) who contributed to the score. The production earned 12 Tony Award nominations including best musical, equaling Mean Girls for the most of any show this season, and while The Band's Visit swept the honors, SpongeBob did score a deserved win for Best Scenic Design of a Musical for David Zinn's scenic design. The show’s director, Tina Landau, earned a Tony Award nomination for her inventive and unconventional approach to the material that humanized the characters than creating literal representations of the familiar Nickelodeon cartoon.



Following a Chicago tryout during summer 2016, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical opened at Broadway's Palace Theatre during Fall 2017, where it ran for 327 regular performances and 29 previews, defying critical expectations by earning some of the warmest reviews of the season. The show closed in September 2018 to make way for refurbishments at the Palace Theatre.

While many expected a theme park-style brand extension, the show surprised theatergoers with its wild Dadaist comic sensibility, ingenious design and winning performances, notably from gifted 26-year-old newcomer Ethan Slater, making a terrific Broadway debut in the title role.

Early in 2019, school and youth group licensing rights will be available, with professional licensing to follow. A North American tour will begin fall 2019.

SpongeBob SquarePants first debuted on Nickelodeon USA on May 1, 1999 and is still going strong.

Since its launch in July 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants has emerged as a pop culture phenomenon. The series has been the most-watched animated program with kids 2-11 for more than 15 consecutive years, and over the past several years, it has averaged more than 100,000,000 total viewers every quarter across all Nickelodeon networks. SpongeBob SquarePants is the most widely distributed property in Viacom International Media Networks history, seen in more than 208 countries and territories and translated in 55+ languages. The character-driven cartoon chronicles the nautical and sometimes nonsensical adventures of SpongeBob, an incurably optimistic and earnest sea sponge, and his undersea friends in the fictional underwater city of Bikini Bottom. Among those friends are SpongeBob's best friend, a pink starfish named Patrick Star, his neighbor and co-worker octopus Squidward Tentacles, and Sandy Cheeks, a squirrel from Texas.

SpongeBob SquarePants is created by Stephen Hillenburg, who previously worked as a writer, director and creative director on Nickelodeon's animated series Rocko's Modern Life. Hillenburg graduated from the California Institute of the Arts with a master's degree in experimental animation and his undergraduate degree, from Humboldt State University, was in natural science with an emphasis in marine biology. Hillenburg executive produced the series until his untimely passing in November 2018. His first feature film, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, which debuted Nov. 19, 2004 and his second theatrical, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, hit theaters Feb. 6, 2015, landing at #1 opening weekend.

SpongeBob SquarePants has been renewed through to at least the show's twelfth season, will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2019, has its own critically acclaimed Broadway show, set to tour the U.S. from Fall 2019, and has a third upcoming movie, The SpongeBob Movie: It's a Wonderful Sponge, set to be released in Summer 2020. The series is produced at Nickelodeon in Burbank.

SpongeBob has also been making news for a different reason as well and it involves paying tribute to the late Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of SpongeBob SquarePants. A petition which calls for a SpongeBob Super Bowl tribute featuring "Sweet Victory", a song featured in the series and a favorite among fans, for the show creator has gained immense traction.

From the looks of it, fans’ effort to get a Super Bowl tribute seems to be a success. A recent promo video released by Maroon 5 on their official Twitter account has teased that the band has something planned to pay their tribute to Hillenburg.
