Nickelodeon's "Worldwide Day Of Play" Comes To Prospect Park, NY With Slime Booth, Games & 5K

BROOKLYN, NY — Prospect Park in Brooklyn is about to get slimy — and I'm not talking about the algae percolating in its many lakes.

Nickelodeon's "Worldwide Day of Play" is coming to the park on Saturday 16th September 2017, bringing a host of activities to the "Nethermead" section.

Those activities include basketball, blow-up slides, a slime booth, picnic and the Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City's Race for the Kids, which is giving all New Yorkers the opportunity to join BBBS of NYC in support of their cause to raise awareness of the mission, generate funds to support their programs and recruit more volunteer mentors.

Hosted by Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC, this charity 5K family-friendly Run/Walk attracts more than 4,000 participants. At the Race and picnic that follows, the children served by the organization are joined by their mentors and families, their many other adult volunteers and caring New Yorkers for a fun-filled day that celebrates the power of mentoring and emphasizes the importance of health and exercise.

The events all take place in Prospect Park's Nethermead, a section in the middle of the park that can be accessed by entering on Prospect Park Southwest and walking straight in.

The race follows much of the outer loop before ending up back there, where the rest of the activities will take place. Registration for the race begins at 7:45 a.m., and it gets underway at 8:45. The rest of the activities start around 10. Click here for more information and to register for the race.

Our mission is to provide all children in New York City who face adversity an opportunity to experience a strong, enduring professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationship with adults that will help change their lives for the better. We partner with families, volunteers, organizations, and the community to inspire positive change in all!

Worldwide Day of Play was created by Nickelodeon in conjunction with its “Let’s Just Play” campaign. The annual event is designed to encourage children and adults to turn off the television and play, especially outdoors.

Nickelodeon is showing their dedication to all things active and playful with the networks annual Worldwide Day of Play tour! This year Nick has made stops in Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Kansas City, and San Juan (Puerto Rico), and will finish up at Prospect Park in Brooklyn on September 16th. The national events will eventually culminate in the Worldwide Day of Play on Sept. 30, when Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., Nicktoons and TeenNick will go dark to encourage kids to go outside and play.
