Indiana: South Bend Cubs To Host "Slime The Staff" Initiative To Help Raise Funds For Hurricane Harvey Victims

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU): Many people around the around have stepped up to help out victims of Harvey, including organizations in Michiana like Fur-ever Fosters and even the South Bend Cubs.

This Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Fur-ever Foster will be taking donations of pet supplies at their Mishawaka Avenue location.

They're looking for everything from pet collars to blankets to toys to non-perishable food -- even bags that have already been opened that they can re-seal.

"We think about the people who are affected, but never about the pets," Fur-ever Fosters founder Clare Duran told WNDU 16. "We're going to do a big drive this Saturday. They're going to be sending out a truck mid-week, so we want to get some supplies to them as soon as possible."

Two days before that drive, the South Bend Cubs will raise money for Harvey victims in a very unique way.

At Thursday night's game, five South Bend Cubs staff members, including team president Joe Hart, will be accepting donations for the American Red Cross.

The team member that gets the most donations will get covered in green Nickelodeon slime in the center of Four Winds Field after the game.

"We're really excited about being able to help out and do our part, but also put a fun spin on it and hopefully spur many donations," said Chris Hagstrom-Jones of the South Bend Cubs. "We want to help out those who are in need... Even if you can't make it to the game -- just whatever you can do to help."

Fur-ever Fosters is located at 2609 Mishawaka Avenue in South Bend.

The South Bend Cubs will take on the West Michigan Whitecaps Thursday evening starting at 7:05 p.m.
