Portion Of Nickelodeon Universe At Mall Of America Reopens After Evacuation

A portion of Nickelodeon Universe at the Mall of America that was evacuated on Friday morning has now been reopened.

A bomb-sniffing dog identified what Bloomington Police said was the souvenir penny-pressing machine in the theme park area around 11:30 a.m. as suspicious. The machine was investigated and the incident was cleared, with mall-goers being allowed back in the area at about noon.

“Mall of America employs several industry-leading security measures on a day-to-day basis in an effort to keep our building safe and secure,” the mall said in a statement. “One such measure is to inspect all elements within our property by implementing routine security procedures. Mall of America remains committed to providing a safe environment for our guests, tenants and team members.”

The mall issued a full statement:

"A portion of Nickelodeon Universe closed for a short period of time today during a standard security procedure. All areas of Nickelodeon Universe are back in operation and open to guests.

The news follows the Mall of America temporarily closing Nickelodeon Universe's popular Shredder’s Mutant Masher Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles amusement ride pending further safety inspection in the wake of a fatal accident involving a similar ride in Ohio this week. All other rides remain open.
