Coolabi Launches Digital Strategy For Poppy Cat With Nick Jr. UK

From Kidscreen:
Poppy Cat purrs way to digital deal

UK-based producer and rights management company Coolabi has inked a US home entertainment and digital distribution deal with producer-distributor Entertainment One (eOne) for its preschool animated property Poppy Cat (52 x 11-minute).

The agreement will see eOne launch Poppy Cat on DVD this coming fall. Other consumer products including toys may also be coming soon as New-York based The Joester Loria Group has been in discussions with potential partners on behalf of the property.

Poppy Cat, which is based on a book series created by Brit author Lara Jones that has sold more than 2.5 million copies worldwide, is commissioned by Nick Jr. UK and debuted on 24-hour preschool channel PBS Kids Sprout in November last year. The series has been picked up by more than 20 broadcasters worldwide including Disney Junior in Spain and Latin America, Nick Jr. Australia, TVO, SCN and Knowledge Network in Canada, RTE Ireland, across Scandinavia and the Middle East.

The new deal comes after Coolabi recently finalized a US$7.7 million management buyout by shareholder Edge Performance that gives Coolabi access to new funds and better leverage to grow its brands.

Coolabi has already launched a digital strategy for Poppy Cat with Nick Jr., a tie-in has been signed for books with pubco MacMillan, and a deal with UK toy manufacturer Golden Bear will bring plush, plastics and arts & crafts products to market this fall.

Producer and rights management company Coolabi has named UK toy manufacturer Golden Bear as the master toy partner for its Poppy Cat property. As such, a new toy line for the UK and Ireland covering plush, plastics and arts & crafts will launch next fall.

The appointment of Golden Bear adds momentum to the licensing programme for Poppy Cat, which has recently seen sign-ups for TV tie-in publishing, magazines, nightwear and underwear and games and puzzles.

[...] In addition, the show has been picked up by Sprout in the US, as well as by broadcasters in Australia, Canada, Korea, Poland and the Middle East. The 52 x 11-minute series brings to animated life the world of the preschool children’s character created by Lara Jones in the Macmillan book series that has sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide. The series is co-produced by Coolabi’s television production arm, Coolabi Productions, and King Rollo Films.

Nickelodeon USA's Super Hero Host Pick Boy Attends The Super Bowl XLVI Media Day In Indianapolis, Indiana, USA

From The Guardian:
Super Bowl XLVI

Super Bowl 2012: Giants and Patriots ditch trash talk on Media Day

Fans and players on best behaviour as the New York Giants and the New England Patriots faced the media. And Osi Umenyiora displays fickle soccer allegiances

There were the newshounds, packed in around Rob Gronkowski's podium tighter than commuters on the Tokyo Metro. There were the former pros in their tailored suits, gliding through the crowds and greeting the players on familiar terms. There too were the model-presenters in their slinky dinner gowns, flirting shamelessly with their interviewees. And there, of course, were the self-publicists in fancy dress. "I think next year they're going to incorporate my name into it," announced Nickelodeon's Pick Boy – a regular at this event in his bright orange superhero get-up: "The Super Pick Boy Bowl."

All of the above are par for the course at Super Bowl Media Day, an event which began as an opportunity for the press to speak to the protagonists ahead of the NFL's championship game but somewhere along the line developed a life of its own – growing into a televised circus that has lately seemed to be as much about the people asking the questions as the ones answering them. There was one new element this year, however. Or to be precise, roughly 7,500 of them.

That was the number of supporters that the NFL allowed into Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, for this, the first ever Media Day played out in front of a live audience. At a price of $25 the cynic might have wondered if they could truly attract such a crowd for what is, at root, a glorified press conference yet the demand was sufficient that the scalpers were out hawking tickets at above face value. The first punters were already in their seats a good hour before the scheduled 10am start, some already tucking into their first snacks from the concession stands.

Most seemed content with their return on investment – rather too content, in fact, with the crowd acceding to an appeal made over the public address that fans "please be respectful" towards the two teams. With more than half the audience sporting Colts jerseys one might have expected at least a smattering of boos for New England, their great rival of the past decade. Instead, even Tom Brady was cheered. "He's still a good guy, you have to respect him," offered one Colts' season ticket holder. "There's sense making Indianapolis look bad by booing."

In return for such good behaviour they were rewarded with a slightly disappointing spectacle, a Media Day light on both bravado and whimsy. Pick Boy aside,...
